Continuing from my last few posts, I spent a total of 5 nights over the past week plus shooting around the Palouse as I had motivation and good weather.
From my favorite dirt road on the Palouse and then being skunked at Spring Valley reservoir, I visited with friends Moose Creek Reservoir over near Bolville, Idaho, then the T.A. Leonard barn just outside of Pullman the night after, and finally the popular Lonely Tree below Steptoe Butte. We have had a lot of air glow this past weekend which added an extra element to our photos taken.
I had forgotten to post the Time lapses that I ran that go along with #1 and #5.
Moose Creek Reservoir time lapse. Disregard the dim exposure, I have not had the time to finish editing this one in LR, this is the one generated by the Panasonic S5...
From Steptoe butte, this is a short one I ran, but was interrupted by a couple that came to shoot for meteors, so we got some added lights on this one.

Nice work. The last one is my favorite.
#4 and #5 are my two favorites from the past week and want to get out to this location a few more times next year. I'm sure by next week this spot will have been hayed.

Beautiful set, 1 and 5 are the most interesting to me.
#1 was my first attempt at a panoramic shot of the Milky Way and also catching the MW over water, that was a fun night.

Very nice set of the Milky Way. I love the first with the campfires in the foreground. How did you keep those fires from over exposing during the long exposure?

Nice job!
Thanks and at best I can call it luck? This was a concern of ours as well, but after a few test shots with our normal settings for MW, we found that it only added to the photo.
Nice set of MW shots. Are 2 and 3 composites or heavy crops? We’re you using a tracker for the 50 mm?
I haven’t seen the horse that large in comparison to the foreground. I do typically shoot my MW at 14mm so it is certainly going to be a lot smaller in comparison.

#2 is a single exposure and not a composite or is it overly cropped. The 8 second exposure is a little long for the focal length... if I zoom in on the original image you would see that the stars are not pin point. This one was an experiment as I have a Sigma 40mm f/1.4 Art lens on the way and was just playing with the 24-70 lens... didn't expect this one to come out as good as it did.
#3 is also a single exposure and I believe I cropped the foreground and some of the left side of the image as I was trying to focus on the MW and old barn... I was on railroad tracks and couldn't get any closer than I was without upsetting a farmer

Nice set! I like the 2nd shot and the two at the end with the tree best.
The tree is one of my favorites to shoot from both above (Steptoe butte) and below (this shot here).

first and last shots are great. That last one with the tree is quite a find!
Thanks, this is an excellent spot that is not easily found as you need to take a dirt road to get here, but is very much worth the visit!
#1 and #5 for me but really like #1.
Can I ask your setting for your time lapse videos on you tube ?
Those are so neat.
Bought a time lapse release and have only used it once.
Keep up the amazing work.

Thanks for the comment, David. And yes, this was some of the best air glow I have seen.

Bill, looking at the images taken... this is with the Sigma 14mm @ f2 for the series. I was shooting at ISO 3200 and 8 sec per exposure and a 9 sec delay between exposures. If I was to do it again, I would have picked ISO 6400 and shot for 10 sec exposure. The images were processed in camera into the time lapse at 6 frames (images) per second.
Thanks for the info.
Was the six frames in one second to stacks them or make the pictures sharper ?
Sounds like almost a rhythm, 8 sec exposure, 8 second delay ( or 9 or 10 ) .
