I've been trying to capture a red breasted nuthatch all season with no luck. They land on the perch by my feeder for about a half second then jump onto the feeder (I have lots of on the feeder shots). These are fast little birds and have bested me so far this year.
Wonderful image, congratulations on catching such a quick little rascal.

Most of the time they go straight to the feeder - about one in ten will land on the branch first, just for a split-second. Pre-focusing and 20 FPS help a lot.
The deer rut is just at its early stages, but this causes the bucks to become a bit more visible as they begin to size each other up. While there is still a bit more green vegetations than is normal for the time of year, I did manage to get a few clean shots. The 400 f4.5 is a dream for shooting loose when one has to shift quite a bit to find good backgrounds.
cheers,

Some shots from today on the Z8. First one is bare lens, the rest with the 1.4x TC. The cat came over to prowl a bit but quickly left...no meals today, at least not at this location.
Love these Luke... great details throughout. The first shot of the dowitcher (I think) is beautiful.
Seeing these photos make me a little sad, as all of these friends have left my mid-continental home... our selection of birds to see and photograph are quickly diminishing ...I am definitely looking forward to my move to the central coast of CA where we can be reunited sometime this winter
