p.1 #1 · Flashback: Comet NEOWISE and the aurora over the Palouse
It was 2 years ago today that I had decided to drive out of town (I live in Pullman) and setup and run a time lapse of comet NEOWISE through the night overlooking wheat fields and Steptoe Butte. I used two cameras and setup one with a 35mm and the other with an 85mm lens.
I was given a pleasant surprise with noctilucent clouds at the beginning of the night following by some aroura activity later on in the evening. I had time to shoot the Milky Way over the dirt road I was on (last shot) as well which has ended up as several prints on friends walls now. I stayed out until the moon started to rise and I am glad I did as I was able to capture the last few shots with the wheat fields lighting up.
The time lapse turned out better than expected for my skill level.

Very nice! You definitely got some unique photos, especially with aurora. I have to make another attempt at stacking the NEOWISE on the blue evening sky that I took from our .... stationary position... on an equatorial mount using Canon EF 300 f2,8 L IS. Everytime I tried it two years ago there was some sort of an issue.

I was literally just thinking about Neowise the other day. Nearly 2 years ago to this date. Excellent collection, the one with the Aurora is MIND BLOWING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks! I understand the issues, I typically always find a way to make mistakes on the night trips. The only major mistake on this night was not coving the timer flash while shooting when running the TL on the second camera!
It did help that I had been attempting to shoot NEOWISE the 4 nights prior, so I had worked out most of the kinks by then.

Thanks, yes a variant of that last photo is hung in both metal and several canvas prints .

Beautiful comet tail on the sky
Thanks very much, I wish we had more visible comets... though the wife might disagree!

The Aurora was an accident for sure, but a good one at that. My only thought on that day was this was the first night that the comet would be above the horizon for the entire night and I was going to TL from dusk-to-dawn. These were all shot in the same night from 9:30pm to 3am, so only shared this set, I went out for several days before and after this night and have a fairly large set of photos... but hard to beat the Aurora.

An awesome collection of images of the Neowise comet! I photographed the comet while up on top of Heavens Gate lookout in the Seven Devil's mountain area in Idaho. Your images of the comet are much brighter and clearer than mine are, which I assume is attributed to the time lapse. Quite impressive! The last image is truly amazing and beautiful. Congratulations!!!

I've seen lots or aurora's, in person, before but that Milky Way shot just leaves me speechless!
Thanks, this is a hard one to top for MW photos around this location, when you consider foreground and light pollution.

Ohhh, do share please! I was considering to make a trip to Heavens Gate or to Skookum Butte (Lolo Pass, MT) to catch the comet in darker skies, but just never made it.
Due to running a 6 hour time lapse, I shot in JPG only (which I regret) to fit on the two 120gb cards I had available and locked the camera at ISO 3200 and 5 second exposures with the 35mm f/1.2 (and 85mm f/1.8) and only made minor brightness corrections in LR to the set before converting to a TL. The original photos just look a tad darker than what you see above.
Also depending on the day you went out, I noticed the comet getting dimmer as we got past the 14th...
Here is a shot at 85mm that I stacked in sequator.
