Much improved from XT-4. True no black out electronic shutter. Big advantage for wildlife shooter.

The X-T4 didn't exactly set a high bar... even my Lumix G9 had significantly better AF.

I don't have XT-4 or the G9 but looking at dpr results of G9 where they say things are very good in focus. To me look crap. Maybe that's the quality of the lens they use or it is the 4/3 sensor or different set of expectations. I can show better shots from XT1 and 50-140mm f2.8 IMHO.

They NEVER have anything that consider high bar in AF departments AT ALL so this is new for Fuji and people now can actually do wildlife.

their review sometime is just wack. I shot with A1, Z9, R3 so i know what to compare when it come to AF.

I just spent most of the last two days reorganizing my Lightroom catalog, and after looking at thousands of images shot with the G9, E-M1X, X-H1, X-T3, and the X-T4, I'm beginning to wonder why I didn't keep my m4/3 gear, as it surpasses the Fuji APS-C cameras in just about every area of image quality.

Impressive.

Two things to note still.

1. We need to see the stills from these shots in order to appraise how accurate the AF actually is.

2. The challenge of viewfinder latency in mirrorless cameras continues, though it gets shorter. It looks to me like the photographer is dealing with that a bit in some of the shots where the birds change direction. (Less of an issue when the bird does a straight-through traverse across the frame.)

There is no lagging. I shot this handheld with external monitor attach it so it is my panning motion.

I posted lots sample images on my FB.

Disclaimer: I can't tell if FB is compressing these beyond recognition, BUT

If these were my shots, all 3 of these would have wound up in the recycle bin. I can't tell if they are overcropped, but the backgrounds are a noisy mess and the details on the birds are smeary and...not good. They all have the watercolor effect of "I tried to save a shot that was unsavable".

Can you explain a bit more about these shots? I hope they aren't indicative of the HS2 + 150-600 combo.

Don't take this personally, by the way, I'm just curious what the process was here and curious as to the true capabilities of this combo.

Link broken? 😂

To start off, weather is cloudy and foggy plus f/8 lens is crappy. Waiting for the 200mm f/2 sample coming in few days. IQ wise on the lens is yucky. This is purely on the AF area. Will have to get some canon prime lens too see what the camera is capable of.

I don't use FB so I don't know how to properly link your post, but it was your July 9th at 11:22 with the birds.

Who cares how good the AF is is the IQ looks like that Keep us updated when you get some better glass on it, or shoot in better conditions. That said, F8 is my baseline for BIF with a 1.4x TC, so simply blaming F8 for that IQ doesn't hold water for me.

Did you crop those at all?

It is technically impossible for a video monitor system, no matter how good, to have "no lag," or no latency. It always takes _some_ time to detect and sample the image, capture the data, transfer to the camera's software, generate a frame of video, and display it. This time can be reduced in many ways, but a video signal will always lag the real-world subject by at least some small amount.

This is the Achilles' heel of digital viewfinder systems.

To be sure, latencies exist in all camera systems: the physical activation of mechanical shutters, the flipping mirrors of DSLRs, the time to close down apertures, etc.

In the end, the total latencies of mirrorless cameras may end up being shorter than those of mechanically-based camera systems. (I don't know where we stand in regard to the total sum of latencies in the systems at this point.

Because the visual display of EVF systems necessarily includes at least some minimal visual delay (as the image is captured and displayed), the point in the operation where the latency occurs is not insignificant. There is always going to be at least a small delay between what the subject does and when you see it happen, and this is what I think I'm seeing in some of the videos of more active subjects.

This is not to say that video/EVF displays are bad. It is just to be objective about where they are stronger and/or weaker.

The AF looks pretty good. Thanks!

Bottom line - how would you compare the A1-A9II / 200-600 vs the X-H2S 150-600 combinations?

I still have a substantial Fuji kit but so far there’s nothing out there that motivates me to shoot anything other than my A1 for any moving subject.

As an avid Facebook user I can assure you that their compression algorithm is designed to make everything look incredibly bad.

Pretty sure my iPhone shots look better than my GFX shots that don’t get resized to 2048.

Lol.. the so called lag he saw there is when I stop start, and piece multiple clip into iMovie. You just think wayyyy too much into the technical stuff. 😂😂😂

Nope. ;-)

A little experiment. Aim the camera at something that moves in a repeating, predictable way. Put the image soon the rear screen. Step back far enough that you can see both the screen and the actual subject. Observe a slight delay.

You could, if you are interested in understanding this, point another video camera at the rear screen and subject and then note the differences in each frame of the video between the live and screen versions.

I have some experience with this in an application where timing is critical and the small amounts of latency in a video system create some problems for users.

Finally, to reduce your level of defensiveness, this isn't about a flaw in Fujifilm's execution, which seems to be quite credible. It is simply an issue common to any video-based system, no matter the brand.

You need to get your hands on A1 and try that.
