The Dowitcher looks really good considering the focal length. The Heron from the latest message, however, is clearly backfocused and may suggest inconsistency from the R7 AF.
There are signs of heat shimmer as well, a slight blotchiness e.g. on the shoulder of the heron and along the branch it is sitting on. My R5 AF starts to struggle with increasing heat shimmer. Can´t blame the camera for this, necessarily. These ever higher resolution sensors are of course ever more sensitive to any disturbances in the air. A confusing working environment for any AF algorithms.
A visitor watches me intently from his perch, waiting for this human to disturb the soil. As I work the earth, he suddenly flings himself into the fray, gunning for a tasty grub or insect. He remembers his experiences, and returns each day to feast on the scurrying morsels I liberate. Mr. Anole is getting fat.
Lots of great posted images with high end telephoto lenses. What I like about the R7 is what the M6II brought to the table. Focus stacking with wide and macro. Using the 55-250 for lots of semi close images of whatever looks interesting, at the beach, garden, on a hike, whatever. The R7 out Ms the M in every way at a 5 oz cost in weight. And yes, it can handle the high end teles too. It just requires good glass.
The bluetooth connection to one's cell phone is just as flaky as always. It made the connection once then attached the same location and elevation to every image whether on the beach or up on the mesa.

What phone are you using? I was using GPS via BT from my Pixel 2 and it connected reliably, but the coordinates had quite a bit of randomness. Searching online indicated I needed to enable high precision, an option that was unavailable on the old Pixel 2. I just upgraded to a Pixel 6 and it has the high precision option. This made a huge difference in the accuracy of my GPS coordinates. If you use Lightroom, you can manually pin a photo or group of photos to the map and it'll add the coordinates to the metadata.
Good job!
I've seen that a couple times and always wanted pictures. I know what camera I'll take for the next time.
Duncang, I have a question for you. What is the length of the R7 + RF 100-400 measured on the bottom from lens cap to rear display? I have a camera pouch I've used for several XXDs + 70-300 II and I'm hoping it might fit this combo. Thanks!

Jeff,
Not Duncang, but Donnas R7 and RF100-400 is about 9 3/8 in to rear display. It is about 10 1/4 from lens cap to eye cup, which you will need to get entire rig into pouch. HTH

What works for a perched bird doesn't transfer to action shots: The combination of R7 and 1/125 shutter speed is not a great combo for a departing owl Will try tonight with the R3 and better settings.

Thanks! It will be tight. The same measurement with my 70-300 II and adapter on the R7 is 9" even. I have more space over the viewfinder since I made space for the M6II EVF. I've ordered the lens. We will see when it gets here.

I typed it wrong. It is 9 3/8.
