Broncolor Para 133 as main (two 1'x3' strip lights on the sides in the 2nd and 3rd picture ).
I need to use both the 88 and the 133 more, hope to in the next ~3 months.

Nice shots! Congratulations on adding the Para 88 and 133 to your lineup. Why did you not go with the Selens Edge? I got the Edge 90 and going to get the 120 soon (even though I have the Para 133) just for on location shoots as the much cheaper alternatives.

Thanks !

I think I bought the 88 before I really knew about the Edge and I already had (and still have the Parabolix 40") so I have something in that "category".

The 133 is probably the one that I should've initially bought but I'm too stubborn to sell the 88 at a loss and thankfully I "should" have enough time to get my $ worth of use for both.

Unfortunately I couldn't really rent them to test before hand and I felt I had to experience them for myself.

If I'm going to go through the extras (light stand, boom, counterweight) for a parabolic its going to be an 88 or 133, not a competitor. At this point they've been used in other studios where I have lots of time and space to make them shine.

And for those wanting a parabolic that can survive deployment in a moving truck, I guess you should consider the Godox QR-P series:

0:35 on the track. Don't ask why I'm looking at the lighting fixtures in all that chaos! EMJAY, BTW, is one crazy chica rapper with productions closer to performance art than music video. Totally lit.

UPDATE: For anyone reading this thread, by far my new favorite Broncolor PARA 133 alternative is the Selens EDGE 120.

Around here, the Selens Edge costs less than half the price of the Parabolix. Selens has raised their prices in recent years, even on Taobao. But after shooting with the Edge for a few sessions, I’d say just go for whichever option is cheapest if light quality is your main concern. In terms of handling and usability, the Broncolor and Selens stand out as the best. Too bad none of these Chinese makers makes something like the Para 222 or 333.

Curious, where are you seeing this pricing ?

When I go on the Parabolix US website, the Parabolix 45 package is $901 usd. The Selens Edge 120 is $1,600 on Amazon US and $1,850 on the Selens US site.

I got my Edge 90 for about $410 here in Vietnam. I just checked Taobao, and the price there is slightly higher ($600 for 120). Your best option might be to use a freight forwarder from China to the US and skip the warranty and official support. It’s worth noting that if the latest Parabolix is similar to the V1 I owned, its overall construction is more robust than the Selens, with noticeably thicker fabric.

The uneven illumination of my parabolix 45, which the owner came up with all sorts of excuses in a long email exchange with me before conceding, will disagree about the better construction.
YMMV

Ah yes, that’s just my take after years of using each of them (and several months with the Selens). Objectively, the Parabolix V1 uses noticeably thicker fabric; a simple measurement would confirm that. Unless there’s a sound engineering argument explaining why that would somehow compromise the overall build, I stand by my point.

I stand by my point of the uneven lighting of my 45 vs the Selens be it due ton the fabric or rods, it didnt take long to happen.
So that doesnt match the quality I was expecting, much less the support I got when I brought this up with them.
I have been using Parabolix longer but have used the Selens outdoor many more times now than I did with the 45.

I use the Broncolor Para 88, 133 and 222. Totally amazing tools. Rarely shoot without them. Sometimes, outside when it’s too windy will pull out the backup — Elinchrom Fireball

Hello Luis! I watched all your youtube comparisons on YT, thanks for taking the time to make them!
I owned a Parabolix 45 for about 10 years and I was wondering how the selens is working so far? Any quality issues?
Thanks in advance!
