Congratulations to Colin F for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 20 votes - View Previous Winners

Although my diagnosis of ALS 10 months ago was (and is) devastating, I am thankful that my own particular rate of decline is indeed slow compared to some. Some pass (aka die) in a year or two, and the fact that my hands & arms, and speech and swallowing are not yet affected, has me feeling very fortunate. My balance has become worse, and combined with my feet & legs' inability to correct and/or respond quick enough when needed, is resulting in some falls, which, for a person who used to have the balance of a cat, is very unsettling, so I just have to be much more careful.

I've always been fully aware of my mortality, and that there are no guarantees that any of us is going to live to a ripe old age, but this diagnosis is still hard to get my head around, especially not knowing what my rate of decline will be in the years ahead. The wheelchair could be a year away, or seven. In the meantime, I'm still enjoying getting out with the camera in pursuit of our feathered friends.

Hi Colin,

Just look at this incredible set of photos you took and forget about the rest. One day at a time and I'm glad to see you are enjoying taking photos.

The great horned owlet photos garbed my attention and then the super action images, the food exchange, and all the great portraits. You are getting my vote!

Colin, Very happy to hear that your health health problem is progressing slowly. I am getting up in years and more aware of the slightest glitch now. Your images are first class as a fine tribute to you. Best of luck, Bruce Benson

A master class in "How it's done". Every frame is a work of art. It's so rare to look at a collection this large and not say " if only that branch wasn't there." Or, " too bad the background is a little busy". Absolutely nothing included here that the photographer wouldn't want the viewer to see. The eagle touching down is gorgeous as well as all the others. And the eye of the fish in Osprey talons peaking out from the V of the tail makes for the most interesting "butt shot" ever. Extremely impressive and truly inspirational. Easy vote

Thanks for the kind words all. One thing that I am so glad I've done in my life is the bit of travelling I did. I've been to Italy, Mexico, Western US, England & Wales (as a kid), Caribbean Islands, Cuba, India and Morocco. Viewing those images can easily bring me to tears, as it's the memories that are so valuable later in life, not the things we bought (except the Sony A1 of course). So if you've got any desires to go some place, do it, you don't want any regrets later on.
