Some shots from Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge in Washington State. The Short-eared owls were amazing, flying around us in circles while they played and hunted.

I had fun looking for critically endangered spoon-billed sandpiper with Z9, 800PF + TCx2. The bird is quite small and rather skittish and there was one among thousands of local sand pipers
They are our annual visitor from Russia and supposely less than 400 mature adults left in the wild.
I am quite happy with TCx2 performance. Heat haze ruined most of the pictures early on but by early
evening, the result was fine.
All shot at 1600mm, f13 with Z9 and cropped to around 20-35 mp.

I've never heard of these before let alone seen one! Very cool, great find and images!

Thanks George, finally Nikon gave me gears that make life a lot easier to photograph these sandpipers.
I never liked the result using 500/4e FL or 600/4e FL with TCx2 very much but the Z mount lenses
worked quite well with TCx2 and AF is still good enough to track these little fast critters in flight.
This is the first time I managed to get a shot of this sandpiper in flight actually.

I've really never used the 800pf with the TC2.0X but I need to play a little. Again great job!!

Very nice Suteetat. I have never seen a spoon billed sandpiper.
I played with the 800PF w/2xTC a bit on our recent trip to Florida. I have not made it to those images as I wade thru my mountain of trip shots, but hopefully I"ll shave some with sharing too. At the time, I was shooting a Bald Eagle nest and there was some flight action - which is significantly more challenging (at least for me!)@ 1600mm. Lol!!!!

I was quite surprise with the result, having not so great experience with the F mount TC20e iii in the past.

I think TCx2 is not too bad for small birds that are not too far away. Yesterday, heat haze was already quite bad around 2-3 PM even at 20-30m distance but luckily by 4-5PM, it was not too much of a problem.

Haven't posted here in a while. Finally managed to fit an hour of birding in between work and toddler life (good timing considering a week of rainy weather is about to start).
Not my finest owls, but can't complain either (my 1st owl shots this autumn, so a bit rusty).

these are awesome shots
I've been out for ~50 hours looking for SEO this season and haven't found any during mid day or favorable conditions
often the 400mm f2.8 is too slow.. you have great circumstances to be able to use an 800mm f6.3!

Thanks! I'm super lucky to have them close by in a couple locations during the autumn/winter months (not always guaranteed but a solid chance). The challenge is finding time and weather good enough to photograph (and it rains here a lot). They're mainly active in the early morning or in the late afternoon - so windows of opportunity are pretty narrow.
