Sharing this photo of Indian Nightjar I clicked last week at a National Park, kept experimenting with slow shutter speed as the bird was very still, and managed to get this shot at 1/25th of a second with the 800mm f6.3S. This and a couple of other shots were sharp enough (a bit of sharpening is applied in post) and the shot was taken handheld from a stationery safari Jeep.
Totally impressed with what this combo can do in a pinch.

Some of them winter in the glades. During winter months, I accidentally ran over more than several while traveling the airboat trails. One even accidentally hit me in the chest. It's unavoidable. They hide in the sawgrass and fly out into the trail at the last instant. The good news is that they all flew off (airboat trails are 100% water).
I've never been lucky enough to get a shot of an American Bittern.

I guess no 800 PF for me, today I got an e-mail saying my order had been cancelled. No call, no explanation, nothing. Simply cancelled my order at NikonUSA store. I logged in and sure enough cancelled.
They haven't cancelled my other order (yet). If they do, I guess that's my clue it's time to move to the other vendor.

Damn that's a shame! I've read they do that sometime if the credit card had some issue like wrong exp date or stupid stuff like that. Makes no sense why they can't just let you fix it.

I was curious as to how many people here on FM are still waiting on this lens to be shipped? I ordered from B&H on 4/6/22, but later in the day (I think it was 2PM EST). Still waiting patiently. I am not an NPS member. I understand the issue of ordering from B&H, with the larger numbers of orders involved, but I do not have a local shop nearby anymore and B&H is a trusted supplier for me.
If anyone knows of these being in stock anywhere, I'd be interested in that info as well.

I got the same email yesterday. Luckily for me I did not need that lens anymore. I found one 5months ago from a small camera store and got it there. Then sold it after I found a 400mm tc. I forgot I had ordered one through Nikon as well. My guess is because I used a debit card? Anyway, I’m kind of glad that was the case for me. I didn’t need a 7k charge. lol. Did you try calling them to see if you could still get it?

I do not understand something. Maybe someone here can enlighten me. And please do not pull me into an argument because I am simply trying to help. I am just trying to offer a suggestion that would get you that lens.... soon.
Why do you not join NPS? Or maybe you have and I misread.
NPS works for me...each time I used it. It gives you priority. No? Does it not work for other folks?

Have a great day!

I tried to join NPS but although I have more than enough Nikon gear, and I have sold my images in the past, however I never qualified because I don’t earn anything from my photography.
How is it that you qualified? Was there something I missed?
To become a member of NPS, you should be a full-time professional photographer owning and using a certain amount of Nikon equipment. In addition, there are further membership requirements imposed by regional NPS organizations.

First of all, my qualifications are not your business.
They *are* Nikon's business. And I have given proof to NPS.
Here are the conditions. Maybe these will help you.

I would love to be an NPS member and I’m asking did I miss something?

A small flock of warblers were stuck at the river bottoms during a Sunday morning snow storm (yes it is still snowing in Minnesota )... this made for decent opportunity... Only small crops to tighten the composition a bit.

Always so interesting to see varieties we don't have here, our warbler look slightly different.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your comment...
Most of our warbler species are ephemeral as they make their way to the Northern Boreal forests that extend into Canada. There are about 35 warbler species that migrate through MN with about 20 species that I have the potential to see in my area. As far as residents, I believe than 24 species actually breed in and around Voyageurs National Park and the Boundary Waters. MN has a very large expanse of protected Boreal Forest with a high density of mosquitos and other juicy insect species. The area that includes Northern MN, Northern WI, and Northern MI area ideal conditions for these neotropical birds.
Because I am more of a researcher and photographer rather than a birder, I have not invested the time to learn each one's distinguishing characteristics.
FYI,.the males I just posted are yellow-rump warblers, and they tend to be early visitors.
