FW 3.0 arrived just in time for my quick day trip for Van Hasselt's sunbird.
The bird is rather small with very challenging background. The bird does not quite fill Wide-L AF area with wings wide opened.
and the sunbirds usually hover for no more than a second. AF does get confused and picke up the flowers
instead sometimes especially if the bird left the focus area but still some pretty decent shots.

Definitely better performance after the 3.0 firmware update. Much better at focusing with trees in the background, the biggest struggle is now focusing on a subject against a water background, especially if there are waves (such as shorebirds on a beach) or ripples.
And a couple recent shots.

Thank you Mr Stork! 😉
One of my fave birds that I had to hunt for on Long Island but now that I'm here in Myrtle Beach it's in the back yard! 🥰
Love your images in general George, and your contributions here are so informative and inspiring. Woodstorks are fascinating birds and great subjects. I design ecosystem restoration projects and early in my career drove anyone within earshot nuts going on and on about the critical importance of stork habitat restoration. Earned nicknames in the process (Woodie, Woodrow, and for those in the know - Ironhead). One of my first artistic wildlife images was taken of storks rising to flight in great light after an afternoon feeding frenzy in a marsh I designed. Been hooked on nature photography ever since.

Well thank you so much for the kudos! I like your story and funny thing is I was trying to get a few Woodstork images this morning but they were too far away and we had 35mph gusts of wind. There is a storm that willl be heading our wasy thursday or friday so I hope the Woodstorks will stick around a bit longer!

Just got my copy!!!!!
Anyone here using the Kirk LP-72 replacement foot with this lens? A review on B&H says it hits the lens hood when the hood is reversed. A YT video says otherwise, but did not show it.
