Love those Jacana's!
Thanks Lance. They are absolutely beautiful birds. Over here, migration season is almost here so
there will be a lot more interesting water fowls over the next several months.

Nice shots!!! I can’t wait to get mine. What kind of bird is the 3rd photo?? Looks like a fulvous whistling duck that we have in Florida.
It is Lesser Whistling duck. It is quite common around here but very skittish.

This is a bit of a re-post from one I did in the Z9 thread the other day, but someone asked me to post cropped versions of the shots so he could check general IQ & AF accuracy.
They may not be Steve Perry shots, but they put a smile on my face and that's really all that matters.

Finally got an owlet in flight, unforunately it happened just a few minutes before sunset
f6.3, 1/2000, iso 2500 with lots of increasing exposure on the owlet in post processing. Some cropping but less than DX cropped. May be I should have brought 400/2.8S instead.

This lens is unreal
How can you get such sharpness with 800 mm at1/80s? ( I am assuming hand held maybe not)?
This was taken handheld. Technically it is a little over 3 stops of VR if my math is corredt. Nikno claims 5.5 stops is possible
in combination with in camera stabilization so somewhere between 1/10-1/25 should be possible even. I have not tried anything much below 1/80s but I get consistanly good result with 1/80 as long as the subject is still enough.
I know a couple of people who love to photograph these birds using floating blind and one person wins prizes in one of the local wildlife photography competition almost every year from his floating blind. Very spectacular. I was shooting from a barge so I was still at least a couple of feet higher than water level even when I was lying down. I have very strong aversion to leeches so no floating blind for me but some friends tried to assure me that I dont need to worry about leeches, may be one of these days
The Jacana are most commonly found walking around water lily pads but I guess if you can find water lilly pad without lots of flower, it could look like them walking on water.
