I don't think this has been posted. Looks like Sigma is about to release a new 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN for Sony E mount.
At 450g, it's lighter than the Sony Zeiss 16-35 f4 at 518g and Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G at 565g. The new 16-35 PZ is lighter at 353g, but all these are f4.
16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary
・ Lens configuration: 16 elements in 11 groups
・ Shortest shooting distance: 25cm
・ Maximum shooting magnification: 1: 5.6
・ Number of aperture blades: 9 (circular aperture)
・ Filter diameter: 72mm
・ Size : Φ77.2 x 100.6mm (E mount version is 102.6mm)
・ Weight: 450g
・ Mount: L mount ・ Sony E mount
Well, it better has some property which really significantly trumps the Tamron 17-28 (the above specs show none, yet). Otherwise it's a pretty superfluous lens.

I like my 17-28/.8 Tamron but for those more dedicated or with more discerning "color" vision, a Sigma to go with other Sigmas, this seems it could be a welcome add to the line.

Superfluous to who? I'm not sure it has to trump the Tamron, just has to be a compelling enough alternative that those of us who much prefer Sigma feel like we're not losing anything by choosing it.
I may pick this rumored new Sigma 16-28/2.8 DG DN in L-mount for my Sigma fp to accompany the 28-70/2.8 DG DN zoom, although I already have the 20/2 and 24/3.5 DG DN primes for the wide end. I like the Sigma 28-70/2.8 DG DN quite a bit.
In E-mount I have the 16-35/2.8 GM which I'm happy with (along with my CV 15/4.5 & 21/3.5 & 21/1.4 primes and 24/1.4GM & 24/3.5 Sigma) and there's no need to add more zooms in the same range.
Overall this zoom is more interesting to me than the rumored 50/1.2 DG DN and 50/2 DG DN (I have so many 50mm primes already and between 45/2.8 and 65/2 DG DN there's no feeling of a gap that needs to be filled).
The Tamron 17-28 ticks all the boxes for me, light, compact, 67mm filter thread, internal zoom, great optically, and inexpensive. The new Sigma won’t interest me.
If I had to choose between the Tamron and this new Sigma I'd go for the latter, but I'm not in the market for any of these lenses. I do like it that Sigma is rounding out their portfolio with more lenses for different consumers.
Nobody seems to care that the Sigma is 16 vs the Tamron 17? For me, I want as wide as possible for a lens like this. I had the Tamron, and it's a great lens, but I opted for the z16-35 instead, and it was more because of that 1mm on the wide end than the increased long end. Count me in as interested in this new Sigma.

Then there is the tried and proven Sigma 14-24mm DG DN. Personally, I would prefer getting the additional 2mm on the wide end over the 4mm on the long end with the existing lens over the newly introduced 16-28mm, For those that use physical filters, however, the new lens is more appealing though. The bulk and weight may also favor the new lens but the difference in the 2 factors may seem minor. In other words, whatever floats your boat. The FE ultra wide angle zoom area seems to be getting crowded, huh?
