There are some minor quirks but generally it works well.
The wheel on the adapter allows one to set 28/35/50/75/90/135mm, so the typical Leica M focal lengths.
The opening is much bigger compared to the pre production sample I had, the only
lens where I still have additional vignetting is the rather obscure MS-Optics 135mm 2.4.
VM 75mm 1.5 / Leica 90mm 2.0 / SY 50mm 1.1 / MS 50mm 1.0 (which are my M-lenses with the biggest entrance pupil) all work without any issues.
I will have an article ready when it is officially released, currently just waiting on an update when that will be....Show more →
Hi Bastian,
Thank you for the information and the review. I placed the order for the adapter. I have no problem with the cost of the adapter, but the shipping was $30 US dollars, which seems a little high. I look forward to receiving it shortly and putting it to good use. I have Steve (1bwana1) sending me the Leica 6 bit template that he had made up so that I can encode at least some of my Voigtlander lenses like my 28mm Ultron II, and possibly my 90mm f2.8 Apo-Skopar as well as my ancient Leica M 135mm f4 Tele-Elmar V1. I will have to figure out what I wish to do for my Voigtlander 12mm f5.6 Ultra Wide Heliar II VM, my Zeiss 35mm f1.4 Distagon ZM, my Zeiss 85mm f4 Tele-Tessar ZM, and my Minolta CLE 40mm f2 M-Rokkor lenses. But, if nothing else I can set the focal length and if I am following what you have indicated, I can set the aperture to be recorded with the focal length. With my Leica M WATE (which is encoded) I still have my Phigment Adapter that reads that lens (I will have to see if I can set the working aperture on that) but I suspect that I could with the new adapter (though focual length of 16/18/21 I will have to monitor the image size). My Leica M 24mm f3.8 Asph lens is encoded.

Rich, as long as Leica has a matching focal length in its database of lenses, I think you could successfully code any of your lenses to pass the focal length to your camera for purposes of IBIS.

This is correct, but afaik this in the end amounts to 10 focal lengths for which a code exists:
16/18/21/24/28/35/50/75/90/135
Coding a 15mm as 16mm, a 20mm as 21mm, a 25mm as 24mm, a 40mm as 35mm and an 85mm as 90mm is still better than nothing and would extend this range a bit to about 15 focal lengths.

Hi Bastian,
For what I was charged for shipping and handling ($30 from TTartisan), I sure hope that I get some expedited shipping at least. That was to say the least unexpected when I went through final checkout that calculated shipping.
I have been waiting for an order for a SWEBO LS001 macro focusing rail coming out of Shanghai through AliExpress for 26 days now as they have and are still under Lockdown (hopefully it will end very soon).

To those that ordered one and will hopefully receive it soon it would be great if you could share your experiences with camera and lens compatibilties,
especially when it comes to the M-mount lenses with big entrance pupil (e.g. 90mm 1.25) and more 6-bit codes.
My deCosinafication program has meant the acquisition of a number of 6-bit coded Leica M-mount lenses from 28mm to 90mm. I’ll report back once I’ve received then tested the adapter. I intend using it mainly with the 90mm APO-Summicron-M and 135mm Tele-Elmar-M.
Here it is 11880 yen including all costs (tax & shipping). I decided to try one as well since it could work as a thin adapter with some of my lenses that need that (Bastian's review mentioned the thin factor) + to try out the focal length control wheel etc. I have 0 coded lenses so not going to utilize that part of the functionality.
Not sure when STKB start shipping them yet though, it's treated as a pre-order and they are still waiting for the adapters to arrive.
I'm also getting the new CV VM-E close focus adapter on 5/30.

This is great news! I've placed an order and looking forward to trying it out. If anything, to support the manufacturer as @BastianK mentioned in the blog post.
Unfortunately I only have VM lenses (15 heliar III, 21 Skopar and Nokton, 35 Ultron and Nokton) and none of them are coded. I never bothered until now and don't want to sidetrack this conversation, but if someone could refer me to a summary of DIY coding methods (I heard there are many) that would be great. That would be especially useful for 21 as it's not on the dial and I switch between 35 and 21 quite a lot.

I wish this existed in non M mounts but I’m glad to see it exists. Manually setting ibis was always annoying for manual lenses
I think you should be able to add LM to (FD/MD/OM/F...mounts) adapters to this and then have ability to select FL using the wheel to support IBIS and FL EXIF

I have one on its way from TTartisan directly. Shipment is through FEDEX and right now it is sitting in Sennan-Shi, Japan and is waiting for an update for moving onto the USA. FEDEX has no estimated delivery date scheduled, but it is shown as a FedEx International Priority package.
I have a second one on its way through eBay auction. The seller was not happy with the outcome of the auction and asked me for more money for shipping (I paid some additional amount but less than they asked because it was a good price and I was afraid the seller would somehow cancel the sale). It was shipped via Speedpak and it is showing as Export Customs Declaration has been Completed in Hong Kong. It is awaiting shipping to the USA. The estimated delivery date is between June 17 and 24.
I am also wondering and I posted it as a question on Bastian's review regarding whether the adapter can read the 6 Bit encoded Leica R to Leica M adapters and what would it read? Does it make sense to purchase one of these for my small number of Leica R lenses at this point (28mm f2.8 Super Angulon PC, 50mm f2 Summicron (E55), 180mm f3.4 Apo-Telyt, 80-200mm f4 Vario Elmar; the 100mm f4 Bellows Macro Elmar lens needs a bellows [or my Cambo Actus]).

p.2 #17 · TTartisan Leica M to Sony E adapter with 6-bit code
My TTartisan Leica M to Sony E adapter with 6-bit code was delivered earlier today, much earlier than anticipated. This is my copy directly from TTartisan. I have a second one in transit from an eBay auction that is someplace in the USA, but I have no idea where.
Here are my initial experiences with the adapter. First, the adapter is very tight when mounting my Leica M, Voigtlander, Zeiss, and Minolta M mount lenses. As a result, the front surface of the adapter is getting marked up from mounting and unmounting the lenses. Second, my 2 Leica 6 bit encoded lenses- 24mm f3.8 Elmar Asph and WATE are recognized and the EXIF information is saved with the photo files. I tried to encode 5 Voigtlander and Zeiss M mount lenses. Of the 5, I only got 2 correct so that the adapter would read and save the EXIF information. These were my Zeiss 35mm f1.4 Distagon ZM (encoded as a Leica 1.4 lens) and my Voigtlander 90mm f2.8 Apo-Skopar (encoded as a Leica 90mm f2.8 Elmarit lens). I did not get the coding correct for my Voigtlander 28mm f2 Ultron II VM (which I wanted encoded as the Leica 28mm f2 Asph lens. I also did not get my Zeiss 85mm f4 Tele-Tessar ZM lens (I wanted to encode it as the Leica 90mm Macro lens), nor my SK Grimes modified Voigtlander 12mm f5.6 Ultra Wide Heliar VIII (I wanted to encode it as a Leica 18mm lens since I have none) to be recognized by the adapter. Finally, I have 2 additional uncoded M-mount lenses that I did not encode- my Minolta CLE 40mm f2 M-Rokkor lens (there is a screw in the mount that interferes with the coding) and my very old Leica 135mm f4 Tele Elmar V1 lens.
It has been extremely frustrating trying to use the lenses with the adapter that are uncoded. I have found that the best way at least normally to mount the lens (at least those that are 6 bit coded) on the adapter and to then mount the combined lens and adapter onto my Kolari Vision UT sensor modified A7rII (at this point it is my only Sony body that I have been using). In order to switch lenses, as Bastian had mentioned, you can unmount the adapter from the camera and turn it all the way to the side without removing it from the camera body. Then, to switch lenses, normally you would mount the lens to the adapter and then complete remounting the adapter onto the Sony camera body.
My big problem has been trying to set the focal length for the lenses that are incorrectly coded and totally uncoded. I have been having generally good success setting the 28mm for the 28mm f2 Ultron II VM lens. With all of the miscoded or uncoded lenses, it seems best to try to set the focal length on the wheel of the adapter and then mount the lens. I am not sure at this point as to how successful I was initially trying to set the focal length of these lenses but now I am having a bit of some success doing this setting the 35mm focal length for the 40mm M-Rokkor lens. However, I am unable to get any focal lengths in the 90mm an 135mm focal length settings to work with the 85mm and 135mm lenses. I get extremely screwy focal lengths of 21mm, 24mm, 50mm (most often at least for the 135mm lens), etc. At times, I have been able to set the 85mm lens as a 75mm lens, but it is not consistent. I have gone back and forth with these lenses trying to mount the lens to the adapter first or to mount the adapter to the camera and then the lens to the adapter. I just am not getting any consistency for this.
I am going to be forced to try to contact TTartisan about these issue via e-mail and find out what they will say. I am not sure if this is going to be a issue with just my adapter or others as well and to find out how TTartisan wants to deal with this. I am particularly concerned as I have a second adapter coming as well as a used Novoflex 6 Bit coded Leica R to Leica M adapter so that I can at least record my f stops for images taken with my Leica R180mm f3.4 Apo-Telyt, Leica R 80-200mm f4 Vario Elmar, and my Leica R 28mm f2.8 Super Angulon PC lenses.

In Japan there are still no signs of when the adapter will start shipping from Shoten Kobo (they are the official Japan distributor for TTArtisan). Their website still states that they will ship as soon as they receive the product and their listing is shown as pre-order.
I will also test my copy especially for the EXIF handling when using the focal length wheel (as I have no coded lenses) when I get it but no information yet when that might be.
The Japanese instruction video on Shoten Kobo's site shows that the adapter and lens should be connected first and then the adapter should be put on camera with the focal length already selected for it to work right. I guess it's not expected to work so that user could change the focal length on the wheel while the adapter is already connected to the camera... Also wondering if any coding on the lens can mess up the focal length result if it's read by the adapter but not interpreted correctly.

If you arent worried about multiple adapters causing skew, you could us am M adapter, then this adapter, to get the benefits on legacy DSLR lenses. For example c/y to M (I have a lot of these for different mounts by Leicaist from when I used to use the Techart) followed by This M to E adapter…

I also have Pentax-K to Leica M and Minolta SR to Leica M Rayqual adapters which I bought originally to use my Pentax-K and Minolta MC/MD lenses stacked with M-L adapter on my Sigma fp while there were much less adapters available for the L-mount. Will try stacking those with the TT Artisan adapter when I get it.
