p.1 #1 · Sophia, The Bride With The Golden Mask

I own at least 3 wedding dresses, so every now and then I have to break one out and Sophia makes such a great bride. We thought we'd do something a little different and the mask gives it a bit of an Eyes Wide Shut bridal look.
Let me know what you think!!!

Hi John, I like the concept and you lit it very well. If you can ever do a re-shoot, there are two things you might want to experiment with. First is a different mask. The mask appears too big for her face and gives me the impression that it's more of a male than female mask. Second is the pose. Her left shoulder is nearest to the camera and is disproportionally large, plus curling her left shoulder forward has engaged the neck and back muscles, which make her neckline disappear. Again, I like the concept and kudos for the effort.

John, I am really liking your composition!
I understand Larry's comments.
I think the lighting is great and no hot spots on a fair skinned woman. The dress is beautiful and you show the intricacies in the design. A plus!
The bg is perfect!!!

Story, thanks so much for the detailed feedback. I knew the mask was a bit large on some of these smaller women but didn't give it that much importance, looks like I need to revisit. I've used this one a couple of times. I have several masks and usually let my models pick the mask and they always seem to pick this one.
As you probably know, the poses are happening pretty quickly and with a few exceptions most don't have a lot of previous planning and are on the fly.
I'll keep working on what parts of the body are closest to the camera and how they will look.
Thanks so much!
John

Dan as always I appreciate the support comments. I always like shooting white since it's always a good challenge to keep all the specular areas under control. I think this dress is like a size 18 and most of my models are a 2 or less so I can only use it in loosely draped poses.
Dan, thanks again for the comments!

Great shot! I agree with the comments above, but for working with what you've got mask wise that's awesome. I think it could also work with some more amber colored lighting and/or some dramatic lighting (I think Rembrandt in particular would add some mystique and drama to a masked photo), but awesome shot. I love it.

I like it! The combination of the dress and mask make it look like a shot in a musical.

David thanks so much for the response and your interpretation.
Though I certainly did not have a musical even near my mind when I shot this I can certainly see how it can be seen that way. It's good that an image can have a wide variety of interpretations to appeal to a broader audience!
Thanks
John
