Oh Snap .. I forgot to cancel and just now I noticed my credit card was charged this morning and now an email from B&H showing "Shipped". I guess no harm in trying it out.

Perhaps. But when finances are an issue, I’d like people to at least see the difference such an expense would make “Oh these photos are way better!”
Frankly,I don’t think any of my clients would notice. How many of them print and critique their photos to spot the sharpness difference? After editing, even the rendering and bokeh would have to be pointed out. Of course,as always,it comes down to wanting or not wanting it. I know it’ll be fantastic, but who’ll notice other than me….?
Yes, it's easy to get caught up in the sharpness critique thing, but TBH this is never really a lens I'd use for something like landscape where corner sharpness is arguably more important. To me it's an event/portrait/photojournalism/etc lens and if viewers notice "weak" corners or non-Otus rendering then clearly I'm not doing a very good job choosing my subject or composition
I'm starting to do more work requiring a faster zoom so unfortunately I might need to buy a 24-70/2.8 (having sworn off the trinity zooms year ago) and for a few hundred more it would be silly not to get the latest and greatest (and lightest and smallest). Assuming, of course, it becomes readily available in the next few months. I rented a 1st gen Sony 24-70 a few weeks ago and it was fine, but heavy and the focus did seem to be twitchier in low light than I would have liked (on a A1). The Sigman has also caught my eye for its IQ, but I never fully trust Sigma AF and of course it also limits the A1 to 15 fps.
I had a chance to try it out on an A1 and the handling and balance in terms of weight was very, very nice actually. We all have different thresholds of when something feels to heavy but the new 24-70 GM II feels just right for something you can use for an extended time.
I don’t have much to offer in terms of image quality so far except that I like the rendering, especially for a 24-70 zoom lens. Feels like many of the lens design compromises always involved was done just right. Impressed on that front.
Got it an hour ago .. thank you Fedex guy
Plan to take it out this evening, along with a 16-55 and 70-200 GM ii for some testing
It's lighter than GM 1, that's good.
New lens day for me too. My initial reaction other than "how small", the 24-70 GM II seems to deliver on size, weight, AF speed, sharpness and MFD 👍🏻 But I also need to do more "new lens" testing ...not my favorite part of new lens experience, but lessons learned 😉
Disappointed to see that the latest version of Lightroom Classic (11.4) released a few days ago still does not support the 24-70 GM II lens profile. How long does Adobe usually take with new lenses?

Do you need it? It's not a lens with a ton of distortion that you would have to manually adjust. And profiles often over correct vignetting to many people's tastes. But I would be very surprised if it wasn't in the next monthly small update.
Spent a lot of time today at the Cat Cafe and then the Dog Bar .. so all my test subjects are cats and dogs and toy cars
Hopefully I'll get something different tomorrow ..
The old lens competes ok in the outer field at 24mm, but the new lens is much sharper in the center. From 35mm on, its pretty much a wash everywhere in favour of the GMII.
Is anyone else disappointed by the colors of SOOC images? Only had a chance to take it out once, maybe it was the weather, but seems like more color correction than normal is needed.
