So I took my Nikon Z9 for a shootout to Yosemite NP last week and I've noticed some files have serious problems - horizontal equally spaced lines in them. It looks like some kind of electronic shutter sensor readout problem! Anyone experienced or have seen the same problem?
I've reported that to Nikon USA but so far they told me to send my camera in.... Hopefully this is only a firmware update. I do have the latest so far installed and had it when I took those images.
Thanks for replying Jason and Jade. I asked Nikon to send me a new one. They can have this one for investigation now for as long as they want. I took only 700 shots with it.

What was their reaction to your request?
They better send you a new one!
If it is mine, I am telling them that my request for a new one has been posted on forums. And then I am posting on forums, not just here.
Well, Nikon just called me and they decided to refund me the money. No camera replacement will be provided as it is a high demand product and they don't have one in stock. I could keep the one I have but some tech in NY will take it apart to investigate the problem. This is a 700 shots brand new body, and there's no way I'd agree to this. So I'll take the money and reorder one, and wait.
Call back and ask for an executive level manager and they can expedite the replacement.

Oh that sucks. . Hopefully you get another one soon.
that looks to be line scan issues. give it back to them asap.
as to taking the money and reordering i'd put the immediate as possible replacement on them as it is a warranty issue. unless of course you are not in real need of it.
It should be fixed and give you a loaner or give you a new replacement ASAP
I am having small issues with mine right now. They told me I could send it in if I wanted. Going to wait a while to see if there are other problems popping up
Actually they send me a message today stating they won't be able to send me an RMA. SO they won't refund me any money. They said the only option is to send it in to get it fixed. Man, I'm so pissed. I told them I will never allow some technician in New York to rip my camera apart and investigate the problem, or maybe taking a few thousands of pics to find some issue with one. I escalated the case again. This sucks!
I've had similar problems like this in the past with several camera brands when downloading them onto my computer's drive.
I thought it was a camera problem but it ended up being a lost in translation issue when lightroom was loading and saving them on my computer. I re-imported the images that had problems and they looked normal.
On my end I figured it was not the camera. When I played/viewed them back on my camera they did not show any issues, so something was happening in the transferring.

Isn't an RMA a return postage authorization? Why are they refusing the refund? As Steve said (sjms) this is a warranty issue, unless Nikon determines there is nothing wrong with the camera and it is some problem with the post processing (as also suggested). You won't know what it is, till you send it back.
If it is me, and they discover something wrong with the camera, and then still refuse to refund me or replace it, I think that would be the end of my relationship with them, and I've been with them for decades.
I empathize with you, for the situation you are in. I've fought with Nikon Melville NY several times. When they look at the camera, they will honest with you. That's been my experience with Melville anyway.
Try getting jpeg's straight out of the camera to see if it is a raw format problem.
If not I would send it in ASAP
You should be treated as royalty when buying a flagship $5500 camera
Maybe I missed it above, but if you're willing to get a refund or exchange why aren't you working with the dealer? I've found them far more helpful in cases like this than Nikon. Of course if you purchased from Nikon USA that would explain why you're talking to them about a refund.
Another route is to contact your cc company for whatever card you used, I've found them very helpful in cases where the retailer was being difficult.
As an alternate perspective I've seen from time to time in different producers and situations: Sometimes the faulty product which is repaired ends up being better than a newv unit. The new unit received normal assembly and testing, whereas the repaired unit received individual attention to validate its performance which ends up finding and improving not only the problem but also other things that are suboptimal, but not so much they don't work. The decision is yours, but the likelihood of ending up with a better unit new than repaired may not be what it would seem to be.
