Actually they send me a message today stating they won't be able to send me an RMA. SO they won't refund me any money. They said the only option is to send it in to get it fixed. Man, I'm so pissed. I told them I will never allow some technician in New York to rip my camera apart and investigate the problem, or maybe taking a few thousands of pics to find some issue with one. I escalated the case again. This sucks!
It does suck. But if it were me, I would send it in to be repaired. Those “technicians in NY” are excellent and will not only fix your camera, they will check every function to make sure it is pretty much perfect.

Maybe I missed it above, but if you're willing to get a refund or exchange why aren't you working with the dealer? I've found them far more helpful in cases like this than Nikon. Of course if you purchased from Nikon USA that would explain why you're talking to them about a refund.
Another route is to contact your cc company for whatever card you used, I've found them very helpful in cases where the retailer was being difficult.
Yes, I've got it from Nikon USA directly. So I have to deal with them now

Maybe, but I've had problems with them in the past. They forgot to properly seal the camera and it wasn't weather sealed anymore. This happened to a few ppl I know. I guess that's why I'm so resistant to send it in. Plus, it's so new I just hate some tech guy ripping it apart.
I certainly would have tested different mem cards and card readers before sending it in. On-sensor problems seem extremely rare compared to card issues. Hope you get the replacement soon.

Things like this do suck. I wish you the best of luck in getting this resolved quickly and properly. What is most important is that the Z9 is a fantastic camera that once this is sorted should give you many years of great photography.
Oh man, after a two weeks fight with Nikon, they agreed to take the camera back. I sent it back to Nikon USA store a couple of days ago. But, I still love the camera and I'll be re-purchasing it as soon as it becomes available. It's just now I'll have to wait probably a few months to get it back from some other store on-line. Oh well, I sill have my Z7 so I can wait....
Thanks all for suggestions/replies.
Hi Gregg, as a landscape shooter do you think the Z9 has any advantages over a Z7? I would have thought the size & weight of the Z9 is less desirable and the sensor output is pretty much identical to the Z7.

The sensor output is not identical to the Z7. Where did you get that from? The Z9 produces cleaner files at high ISO then the Z7. it actually produces cleaner files than Z6, which has only 24MP.
Also, Z9 focuses much better in low light than Z7, no doubt about that. Just those two items makes Z9 better for landscapes than Z7. I love the built-in GPS, the back screen flipping horizontally and vertically etc, etc. It's not really good for long hikes if you want to save on weight. So for that I'll keep my Z7 but everything else, Z9 is a clear winner in every aspect of shooting.
The high frame speed can also come handy when shooting on a strong wind day. I also like extended exposure times. The Z7 can go up to 30 seconds only, (I know Z7 II can do what Z9 can) but I sill have Z7 I and I'm not planning on switching to Z7 mark II, just Z9 directly. I haven't really used my camera much. I had it for 1 month only and shot with it only once (that's when I got the bad file). So I can't comment much on other features. But it's definitely a great Landscape body, and even better for wildlife. I was suppose to hit Costa Rica for some Bummingbirds shots. The Z9 would've been an awesome camera for that, specially when paired with the new 400mm f/2.8 and 1.4TC built-in lens.
