suteetat,
Every one of the thousands of gold and jewelry shops in Bangkok will have the right kind of gram scale to weigh the hood.
I am leaving on a trip with my 400/2.8s this afternoon. The hood and most of the lens are now wrapped in camouflage tape
so I won't be able to weight it for now. May be when there is lenscoat available then I can take camouflage tape off and weight them properly. With all the buttons and switches on this lens, it will be interesting to see how one will make lens coat for it.

Don’t think about the stupid hood’s weight. It’s not like he’s going to buy one or any of the Nikon stuff.
Have a safe and fun trip. Take a lot of images.

Have a great trip!!! Where are you going?
Thanks Steve. Just going on a birding trip down South of Thailand that was postponed from last year.
Now is supposed to be dry season but weather forecast now called for rain the next 7 days
I ordered some rain coat for the lens last week as I could not find the one that I had now but it did not arrive on time
so looks like garbage bag over my Z9 and 400/2.8S for the next week as down South, when it rains, it pours

Mine just turned up in the post this morning.
Just for anyone curious (since I asked in the first place) the hood is 232g and the lens cover is 152g so the overall travelling weight is about 384g above what the specs say.
The hood is pretty much the same weight as the HK-41 for my 180-400 f4, but that one is substantially smaller.

Thats a *lot* lighter than the 400 f2.8E FL VR hood which is 355gms.

Ok I was away for a week and kept an eye open for any news on the new 400/2.8S but nothing! Anyone hear a peep from anyone yet? Nothing from NPS at all! Sheesh!

From what I’ve gathered, no one in the US has gotten it. My LCS has an ETA of end of March in their system but they did admit the date is never accurate so take it with a grain of salt.
Although I’m very excited about this lens, the 800PF is getting considerably more interest on me this past couple days. I will likely put the order in on the 800PF once it’s announced and see which one comes first.

I just got back from my trip and had a lot of fun with 400/2.8s.
Here is 400/2.8s with TCx2 and Z9.
1/3200, iso 800, f5.6 @ 800mm, all quite a bit of cropping.
I am very impressed with the AF. As the osprey went into water, I over panned the camera
but was able to move back to osprey and AF was able to pick up the osprey immediately
and there was no blurry shots of the osprey at all.

Beautiful images! I have the lens on order and was wondering if you were using an Arca Swiss plate on the foot or if you had found a replacement foot that fits? I am trying to have a replacement foot when my lens arrives. Thanks!

I have not been able to find replacement Arca Swiss foot yet. The footer for 600/4e FL has different screw arrangement on
it and that is the only supertele prime that I have beside 400/2.8s right now so most likely I will have to wait for someone to make
a new footer for it. No idea if it shares the same foot as 400/2.8e FL or not though.

According to Wimberly's web site, the 400, 600 & 800E lenses all use the same foot.
Rob
I called wimberley 2 weeks ago and they were not sure if the new 400s would need a new design because they didn't get the lens yet to check it. They said they would post it on their site when they got the lens and tested it.
