Hi everyone!

I really hope you guys are doing well, I recently visited southern Ecuador with clients and we were able to shoot some very cool species!

I hope you like the following images, your comments and feedback is always very much appreciated

Crescent-faced Antpitta, R5+600f/4 hand held

Blue-throated Hillstar feeding on chuquiragua flower, R5+600f/4+1.4 TC (Ecuador endemic)

Famous for being endemic, Jocototo Antpitta, R5+600f/4

Spangled Coquette Hummingbird R5+600f/4+1.4TC

White-tailed Jay R5+600f/4

El Oro Parakeet, R5+600f/4 This is another Ecuador endemic and it was just discovered in 1980.

Hi Juan,

You compositions are always great yet the first with the inclusion of the leaves makes for a marvelous environmental portrait. I find this type of photo much more interesting that the clastic frame filling subject with OOF background. The last is also an environmental portrait that is lovely yet I like the first better particularly because the bird is looking in the direction of the leaves. The Spangled Coquette Hummingbird is another gorgeous image.

Are you asking for critique? I'm not quite shore by what you said.

As always, Juan, your images are top-rated. I have not been able to get any images of the spangled coquette after 3 visits to Ecuador. That coquette image is my top pick out of this excellent series. And I know that they are active now in the southern part of that country….

juankgigo (juan) and I had this PM:

Hello Morris!

I really enjoy reading your PM! and I appreciate that you took the time to share your thoughts with me, I have no problem at all if you post this publicly. In fact, that's the only way to improve the skills.

Have a great night and thank you very much again!

Hi Juan,

The Black-crested Tit-tyrant is placed nicely in the frame. The bit of leaf intruding in both corners is distracting. Also a minor amount of it's white crest has lost detail.

The Blue-throated Hillstar has wonderful feather detail and color on the head. The whites on the breast have lost detail. The bit of haze in the lower portion of the image is fine, adds to the 3D look of the image.

For the White-tailed Jay, much of he black head and also it's white neck don't seem to have feather detail. That's odd, possibly one or both can be recovered during conversion. I like the diagonal it creates in the image.

The Spangled Coquette Hummingbird is a sweet photo and as I stated earlier I'm fond of the El Oro Parakeet with the included environment. You got everything correct for the Andean Cock of the rock. Feather detail in both the orange and black is hard, its looking up into the foliage emphasizing the nice environment which creates a lovely natural frame for the bird on a diagonal perch, a great compositional element.

I chose to go private as I did not know if you want this level of critique in public.

Possibly another way to improve is to do this level of critique of your own work as you decide what to post. I know it's not as easy as it sounds, I sometimes post images that probably don't deserve it.

Regards,

Morris

Incredible images of exotic birds. This is a perfect example of why I love this forum. Through your sharing your images I get to see and hear about birds and places I'll probably never get to visit in person. Especially liked Tit-Tyrant, Hummingbird and white tailed jay. Thank you for posting these.

My favorite is the second. So much personality in the bird's pose. It draws me in.

Spectacular photos. I like the framing of the Cock of the Rock with the big leaves.
