p.2 #2 · L Bracket for A7 IV

Well, I just stumbled on this. Kirk is taking pre-orders for a nice compact, light L-bracket for the A7 IV. Exactly what I'm looking for. Well, other than the price at $155. This wasn't on their website a few days ago.

Interestingly, the web address says a7 III. Don't know if there is any significance to that, but the page clearly says (and images show on bottom side of bracket) it is for the A7 IV.

It says pre-orders will start to ship by mid February. Unfortunately for me, I need it for a trip by mid February, so I can't count on having it in time.

I have the Smallrig 3660 and I am happy with it. The fit is good and I do not find it bulky. Personally I do not like L brackets that do not cover the entire base of the camera body and this one fits the bill. I live in Italy and ordered direct from Smallrig. I ordered on a Saturday and delivery was the following Monday, so about a week total.

My Smallrig 3660 FINALLY arrived the other day. Haven't been able to take it out yet. to see how it feels in the field. I like this design far better than the Half Cage L-Bracket for the A7III. And it seems to be lighter.

I thought I might need the Small rig style plate that goes to the battery end, for pinky support. However, my fingers all fit on the A7iv, unlike the A7iii where my pinky hangs off.

I ordered the Kirk plate, as I wanted the QD on the L-bracket

Looks like the Kirk L Bracket for the A7 IV is available for purchase now, as opposed to pre-order only the last time I looked. Has anyone bought one?

I have a question for the people who have bought the Smallrig brackets directly from Smallrig, how long did it take for them to get to you in the US? Just wondering if I should be able to receive the one I ordered before March 4th for a trip.

I think it took about 6 days. In the weird world of shipping, my L-Bracket spent 2 days in China, and 4 including the weekend in Alaska. SmallRig is very generous when it comes to shipping. It comes FedEx Express Overnight Priority.

Since you are in CA. and in my case being in AZ, before making it's way to Phoenix it goes to Oakland first.

I think I ordered my bracket mid week which could have been the reason it took longer than normal. When I ordered replacement screws for my A7III bracket it came within 3 days.

I got the smallrig one from their ebay store, which was running a discount. Also got a full cage (the only difference on that between the A7Siii cage is one tiny piece, and they include that as well, both tiny pieces are labeled A7IV and A7SIII/A1).
The smallrig L bracket works, and is rigid enough when fully tightened down. I have a peak design slide dongle on the left side and there's enough of a cutout that it works. The screen has some ability to rotate, but obviously not its full ability. The left side portion can be adjusted front or back. Depending on its orientation, it blocks the front or back doors from opening. So you get to choose. And if you open them first then you can slide it and fasten it to allow the screen to open a bit more.
The cage allows full articulation of the screen, the opening of all 3 doors, and I can turn it into an L bracket by screwing a arca swiss compatible mount into one of the 1/4 slots on the left side (which then blocks one door). Plus, it has an extra cold shoe mount, so I could easily mount something like a camranger in addition to a flash. Obviously the cage is designed more for video, and weighs a bit more, but after experiencing the difficulty of articulating the screen with the L bracket, I thought it was worth mentioning.

Mine shipped in a reasonable amount of time, probably 1 week to WA. Actually the two items arrived a day apart, though I ordered them at the same time.

I just received the Smallrig unit after purchasing it on eBay. I put in an offer of $40 in and they accepted it. The build quality is EXCELLENT! It fits great and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. It now fits my hand almost perfectly and feels the right size. Would recommend!

got a decent offer accepted on ebay for a Smallrig cage (27 UKP + 50% duty and shipping). Want to attach my black rapid strap, by the connection doors so I can support the battery grip in my hand when hiking.

Only need the A7IV to be available here.

It is working good, no slippage, and I do like the QD connection for when I am carrying the camera without a tripod

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I bring this one up as it is not that old. It seems that Smallrig discontinued their bracket discussed above. They have now a new foldable one which I'm not sure I like:
https://www.smallrig.com/SmallRig-Foldable-L-Bracket-for-Sony-Alpha-7R-V-Alpha-7-IV-Alpha-7S-III-3984.html

I found this Gabale branded one on ebay, it looks promising though it does not have a cutout for the flipscreen and that battery compartment access door looks iffy to me (may come loose over time):
https://www.ebay.com/itm/403928322465?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=j6n_-lUoRE2&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=B_9nGIfDSwu&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Anyone has experience with this one?

The Smallrig looks like it addresses the pinky issue above but the pivoting Vertical Plate could be controversial.

That's my take exactly. The vertical plate must be in folded position to attach the camera in landscape orientation. It has two buttons to engage and disengage the plate. That's just moving parts which can break. The gabale LOOKS like a more solid solution.
