Lovely photos of Icelandic fall color. What are the red plants? Mosses?

Thank you, Shirley.

The colours are from the shrubs of the berries turning - the red mostly comes from blueberries. Here in Iceland we have blueberries, bilberries, crowberries growing in abundance in the wild. Berry picking in the Fall is a long-standing cultural tradition.

Thank you, Harry. One advantage to living here is I get to experience these off-the-tourist-circuit places in different conditions and all seasons.

Thanks for explaining the color sources, Rajani. Interestingly, I learned that in Newfoundland late fall is considered to be berry season. Seems like the climate may be similar to that of Iceland.

Shirley,

Newfoundland also has a Norse connection. Recent findings show that the Norse explorers were in the region as early as 1021 CE -

Also - that region of Canada, especially the Northwest Passage, has some of the most spectacular landscape on the planet.
