I picked up my 100-400 today. Basically today 100-400, 24-120/4 and FTZ ii went on sale here.
While my local dealer got quite a decent number of 24-120/4, they only got one 100-400 which I snagged after threatening them that i would bring out my Sony 100-400GM for next week trip
The good news is that they do expect to get quite a few Z9 in next week for Dec 24th, much better numbers than 100-400 definitely. But we shall see if it is true, original date dor Z9 here was Nov 25th then early Dec, Dec 7th, Dec 17th and now Dec 24th. Keep my fingers crossed but my Z9 will be in the first lot so hopefully there is no further delay.
I took a few snapshots with 100-400, nothing much to show but AF is very snappy even on Z7 ii.
All pictures were adjusted in adobe ACR for WB, shadow, hilight etc, resized then converted to jpg with no added sharpening from raw file.

A nice surprise, 800mm with TCx2s, 1/800, iso 2800, f11.
Z7 ii Af is actually quite reasonable but took quite awhile to move focus from near to far but did not hunt in good light.

These look great, Suteetat! Even the 800mm looks great!
Yes, I was rather surprised. I had not have much luck with TC20e iii with any Nikon tele lenses that I tried but TCx2 s seems to work very well with Z mount lenses so far.

Omg. The 100-400 looks seems to perform really well! It will be a killer combo with the Z9!
I agree, I think Nikon has added another excellent lens to its line up.

Here are a couple more shots at short end.
Wow looks awesome! Nice and sharp with excellent detail and contrast!
Dealer shipping mine should have it Monday but I don't have a mirrorless yet! Probably will ship me the Z9 on or after the 24th. My birthday is 12/29 so I should get it then, will be fun way to spend my birthday!

Thanks for posting!
I hope everything will arrive in time and you will have a lot of fun on your birthday/
If I have time tomorrow, I can try to take some pictures with 100-400 and 70-200/2.8s.
It is going to be a bit hectic as I will need to pack for my trip as well as I am leaving early Sunday morning.
I will take my 100-400 with me on the trip so hopefully I will get some more sample pictures.
One unexpected thing, eventhough Nikon said that all manufacturings were moved to Thailand, my 100-400s actually said made in Japan. I was told that 400/2.8s will be assembled in Japan but did not that 100-400 is also made there.

Oh, 100-400mm made in Japan? I did not expect that either.
Congrats on getting one of the first and hope you greatly enjoy it on your trip!

Thank you for sharing some of your initial images of the lens. They look great! Have a great trip and hope to see more images and your field experience of this lens.

One lens factory remains in Japan. All camera manufacture (assembly really, as parts are coming from various places) was moved out of Japan, however.
Some Z lenses are being made in Japan, some in Thailand and some in China.

I think we've seen it already when Ricci was showing it off, it was made in Japan.

Adorama just billed my card for my 100-400 pre-order. It still shows backordered on their site, but maybe I値l get lucky and it値l ship today?
I placed my order a few minutes after orders were allowed.

OMG! Just got an email, my 100-400 just shipped today! 🥰😍 I am so happy! Woohoo
That's a good news, they're moving them here in Canada too.
I'm the first one on the list in my preferred local store, I'm expecting call every day from now on.
Indeed that bokeh on that lens is outstanding. Even the sharpness with the 2.0xTC was more then just decent. I'm looking forward to one of those when the Z9's are out. I plan on using a 2.0x with it to get the 800mm reach. I only shoot in broad daylight so shouldn't be an issue. 2022 should be a wonderful year for us shooters.
