p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fall, San Juan Mountains

I know that there have been a lot of posts from this fall in CO, but I was lucky to be in the area 2 weeks ago at the peak of the fall colors and it was just incredible. So here are a few from that trip (some with Sony a7 and some with Fuji X).

You have to believe me that this is not extra-saturated in PP; on my calibrated monitor, these were the real colors.

We get so fixated on the grand vistas that it's easy to miss that fall is just everywhere, including next to our feet

I camped near a lake and just after sunset there was frost on some of the banks. Together with these pastels colors, this produced a very different type of Colorado fall image:

Thanks for watching.

Wonderful set Zuru. Looks like you were there a couple of weeks after me. I was a bit early for the snow covered peaks that add so much to the images.

Thanks for posting!

good variety of shots here. I like them all but esp like the shot with the prominent cloud in the sky and reflected in the water.

Very nice Fall captures. I notice, especially in photo #2 that water reflections always seem to have a deeper color saturation as if that half of the photo was taken with a polarizing filter. Can someone explain the physics of this phenomenon?

The reflection of unpolarized light from a still water surface will be partially polarized (especially if the angle of the reflection is close to 53 degrees), so if you use a polarizing filter over the whole image, the sky will be less polarized than its reflection from the water.

If my purpose is to capture the reflection from water, then I stay away from polarizers as they will tend to eliminate them (if you rotate to the right angle). So I am pretty sure that I didn't use a polarizer on that photo.

For reflecting water surfaces, the polarizer is useful if you want to eliminate or diminish that reflection. For example, if you have rocks underneath or even want to create a darker look in the water.

So it really depends what your intention is. Hope this helps.
Also, I am pretty sure I applied a vignette in PP, so that will darken the image on the edges.

The contrasting elements of images 1 and 5 make them my favorites, but all of them are winners.
