Love the lighting and composition on this series!
Thanks you! It was a good day, I didn’t bring much good shots from the few last walks I made these couple of days but that’s fair, that’s the game.
On that day the light went from overcast to golden hour which are some good conditions for this lens, I struggle a bunch with it on sunny afternoons, it’s quite a double edge sword of a lens.
It often feels safer to just take the Panchro instead.
I like the Heliar quite a bit and I wish Voigtlander would continue to venture in those territories, the lens is interesting but it feels they didn’t quite nailed it.

Thanks for all the wonderful samples from the 50/1.5 Heliar.
It's a reminder for me to use mine more often!
Haha! Thank you Fred, it’s a great lens and I’m glad I held on to it more after my initial first sessions with it. I’ve grown to love that lens more and more, maybe when I realized after a while that despite having some conflicting thoughts about it, I couldn’t deny the many shots I got from it that I really really liked.
Hope to indeed see more samples from your Heliar, after all it’s in that thread that I was convinced to give it a go.
And for maximum flare, I use a generic wide angle slim lens hood that is quite nice on it.
I alternated between f6.7 (mostly at hard infinity on my Rayqual adapter which gives the best results for mid-frame and edges, though center would be better focusing a hair closer) and f1.5 for close range bokeh shots. All shots are SOOC JPEGs using Sony Creative Style ST (Standard), since C1 Pro still doesn't support A7CII Raw files in the new version 16.3.0 that came out this week. Hoping for support in 16.3.1 which might take another couple of weeks to show up...
I still like this lens quite a bit. Always enjoy shooting with it and the results, but haven't used it a lot recently.

Your photos, Juha, are fantastic as usual! Always nice seeing Tokyo.
At F6.3, it appears to be sharp across the entire frame, even on the Sony sensor. It's a strong performer for close-up shots and really displays great character. This is one of my favorite Voigtlander lenses because it's their own unique creation. Great complement to their 75/1.8 Heliar Classic.

Thanks very much, Fred! Yes, I think the lens can do double-duty as a great character lens and also as a decently sharp everything-in-focus lens even on Sony sensor when stopped down enough. On my original A7C I used f5.6 with this lens for inifinity shots but with A7CII I felt it might be a bit better to stop down a little more so I ended up with the half-stop between f5.6 and f8. I didn't do very careful comparisons between the different stopped-down apertures so far though.
I like this lens precisely for its dual capabilities and for its ability to focus to 0.5m, which is not very common with 50mm rangefinder lenses. It's also nice that I can use hard infinity with this lens on my Rayqual adapter. I often prefer using lenses that are spot-on at hard inifinity and not all of mine are.
I've never had the 75/1.8 so couldn't compare to that one. I've had the CV 75/2.5 LTM since the early days when I started adapting rangefinder lenses and more recently I had the 75/1.5 (traded away after getting 75/1.9) and now the 75/1.9. 75/1.8 always seemed to be a bit on the large side so that kept me from going for it.

Lovely colors but lacking in critical sharpness at the focus point and some veiling flare.
I really love the lens and am not a sharpness guy but I must admit that even I would like to see a new version of the lens with a tad more center sharpness ( and maybe another gimmick to justify the new version). For the veiling flares and odd arc of lights and artefacts, I still want them.
You can have less of those to the credit of the lens, I use on purpose a wide angle lens hood to let the light mess with it.
