I think they'll take another hit if the 74 is as good as it should be and priced well, which it should be.

I believe people buy the A7r4 for its resolution so I don't feel the A74 will have any impact on the A7R4 used price.

You'd think that on this forum, but most people do, hence every camera is a hybrid and prioritising video more and more with each iteration. Check out the new iPhone, it's primary point of difference is the 'cinematic' video.

It's hasn't taken long to go from Nikon D90 to what we have now and since video rarely gets in the way of stills, I'm really happy to have it.

Yeah, the 74 absolutely needs at least 6K video and at least 4K60p to be considered worthwhile for hybrid shooters. As a stills guy, 24mp is enough for me, but 36 ish would

Why does it need at least 6k? It's an entry level camera and most of the video taken with entry level are viewed either on phones or iPads where the existing video is just fine. If one wants more professional options, Sony has many, but for the casual photographer which the entry level A7 series camera is aimed at, they sure don't need anymore video capabilities than what the A7 already has.

not that many, certainly not in this price range.

But if you are serious into video, there are other options like the A7s cameras or even the Sony vlogger centric cameras. The A7 series is stills photography first with some video capabilities that should satisfy the majority that shoot mainly stills with This camera.

I think the only surprise is that the badge says A7 instead of A7IV? I'm seeing a good sized EVF and a smaller (?) flippy screen though? It's hard to judge from a picture that has potato quality.

I guess that is a promo image from Sony and that lens on it is the old 28-70 kit lens if I see correctly. That is a little surprising, I thought they would put on the new 28-60 since it is a really nice lens in comparison. But maybe they still have a pile of the old ones in stock that needs to be cleared.

So I currently own the A9 and am actually interested in this camera because I find I am gravitating more and more towards wanting to shoot video. The obvious choice would be an A1 but I don't have the $$ for that. Long story short with the specs we have so far on this camera what would the benefit be of buying a Ninja V for video recording with this new camera be?

Keep in mind if you use an L bracket it may not work as good as you think.

That's an interesting point. But will Smallrig work that out if there is an issue like that? Or will a 3 Legged Thing L Bracket not have that issue? Something to think about!

Smallrig definitely will, I've used their brackets on other bodies with that setup successfully.

Even the cheap Amazon L-bracket I had on my E-M1.2 was configured to allow most articulation except forward facing/selfie mode (and that was possible by removing the L plate, which was quick & easy)

Typically you can put higher bitrate output on the HDMI port than you can record internally, so by adding a Ninja V you can record at higher quality settings compared to recording to an internal card.

Thank you very much for the reply. I guess also the ability to record in prores and for easier monitoring of the footage.

Fingers crossed the rolling shutter is not too bad on this release and I will most likely jump all over it.

The benefits would be a larger and brighter screen for composition—plus a bunch of exposure tools that most likely will not be part of this new camera. Another benefit would the added option to record in ProRes. But there is a downside to using an external recorder. Now you have an added layer of battery management, a possible need for a cage and a cable sticking out of your camera to connect recorder.

SAR is now talking about €2799/$2499 as a price and availability in the first week of December
Unfortunately that's what I was expecting. I'm not saying it'll stop me from buying, but it's a bit sad. Electronics are just getting really expensive here. A week 48/49 delivery window would work out here for our big holiday plans.

I'm thinking you'll be able to do full 4k60p, it'll just be binned or line skipped. Then for higher quality you'll be able to punch into Super35 mode to get your Oversampled 4k60p.

The biggest question stacked sensor or not, otherwise stick with A9 for now

My bet is that it is not a stacked sensor. And it seems confirmed from YT keywords that it can only do 10FPS. I never expected stacked sensor but I was hoping for 15FPS in ES to outdo the R6/Z6II. But without stacked, ES is always a danger unless read speed is up to R5/6 levels which is actually okay most of the time for bird distortion (still gives leaning verticals though).

We'll see.

It is supposed to be 2799€ in Europe. If that's true it is pretty much DOA
