It is very silly, but I almost gave up on 45/2.8 because of its terrible lens hood (I always use them). But then I found a hood from Haoge, and it completely changed my opinion about this lens. It is not only a great lens, it looks great too now.
Really? I can't find anything wrong with the hood for the 45, or most of the other lenses. It's only the 80 and 110 that are overly large (and probably for the 100-200 and 250 that I haven't even seen).
SO frustrated to see the GF55 was not equipped with Liner Motors and comes with a 50cm minimum focus distance. FUJIFILM’s GF lenses seem left behind compared to Sony’s GM, Nikon’s S-line, and high-performance motors.
Competition in the entry-level medium-format seems insufficient, considering those Panasonic-designed XCD lenses for X2D were even worse than those GF lenses.

Isn't it a bit early to be disappointed when we don't know how fast/slow AF is? The GF 45 doesn't have a linear motor and is still pretty fast and quiet.
You can't expect the same specifications regarding MFD and such from a lens that is for a larger format. That would make the lenses even larger, which probably very few users would prefer to get a tiny bit closer.
Anyone received their 55 and tried it out already? I usually wait for the 1st set of reviews but this time, I couldn't resist, and ordered it I am a 40-50mm guy.
FWIW I love the rendering of the GF50 - I know more people love the 45mm but the GF50 is a gem of a lens. Underrated. I hope the 55 exceeds it by a wide margin.
GF50 vs this? Maybe the rendering is a bit smoother than the 50. Of course the 50 is a 3.5 hence we need to compare both at f/3.5
No idea, I've only taken like 25 photos yet, and all of them at f/1.7.
Not sure if it's even relevant to compare them at f/3.5, because the 55 is so much larger and heavier that you will most likely only bring it when you need or want the large aperture.
I'm now debating if I should keep the 50/3.5 and the 35-70, or just the zoom. It's about the same weight and still very small. The 63 and 80 will probably have to go. Maybe the 45 too, but it's a bit more unique with the wider FOV and super "3D" rendering.
Edit: The 55 is exactly the same size as the 80 by the way, but it feels a little bit better balanced on the camera. Probably the weight distribution is somewhat closer to the camera. Or it's just placebo.
Here's a quick test shot with the 55mm from my front porch. Built in profile and lens corrections applied and a little twiddling of the sliders. If I'm pixel peeping I can find a hint of color fringing. Adding a few crops to show focus point and that little fringe of magenta. If I did it right, they should be 100% scale.
Some more rendering examples...
Close to MFD, wide open:
Edit: There is some strange artefacts going on in the highlights. Typical Fuji oversaturation, I think. Despite that I've desaturated it quite a bit (Pro neg high). The JPG doesn't show the same "halo" effect.
More or less the exact same picture but stopped down to f/3.6 to show the difference in DOF to the 50/3.5.
Note that the bokeh is much calmer here, almost perfect...
To me looks just like 80mm f1.7. I wish Fuji made more f1.7 primes including 45mm f1.7. I never liked their 45mm f2.8 offering whatever anyone else says. For now I am going to sit tight to see if I can hold off buying this 55mm f1.7 or the 30mm TSE till this yr end.

The 55 is definitely a bit harsher than the 80, especially the transition zone. But they are kind of similar in character, yes.
My bet is that there will be a 35/1.7 at some point, and it's gonna be huuuuge. 45 is a bit too close to 55.
