Same here. Will rendering be closer to the 45i, 65i or something in between. Very curious to find out.

The last lens I have been pining for years is a Minolta 75-150/4 or Contax N 70-200/3.5-4.5 remake. I'd love a distinctly small but optically strong, especially stopped down, f4 tele. I think they could keep it under 500g and keep the build collapsible. We have lots of 70-200/4 options that are much larger, and 70-300 that are slower, but someone can make a really compact 70-200/4 and I think it would be much more popular than is thought.

And my guess is the rendering lands in between the 45i and 65i, very similar to the 35i which is fine (though I'd really like it towards the 45i side).

The 90 is exciting, but I'm also very curious about the 24/2. If they can bring it in around the size of the 35/2 without a lot of compromises, it could be my ideal lens at that focal length.

Would be fun to see if they balance the rendering like the 35/2 with a very smooth transition zone, a bit of SA, generally smooth bokeh and good coma correction. Fingers crossed.

Yep. That would be drool-worthy.

It is rumored by Cameraegg that the list price for the Sigma 90mm f/2.8 DG DN will be $639!

that's interesting. I would have guessed the 90/2.8i would be $550 and the 24/2i $640.

If it has a nicer OOF rendering than the 85mm 1.8 (Which I'm confident it will..by a large margin) then the price is justified IMO on that alone. I'm sure there will be a 100 off sale within the first year as well

The market has been ripe for such a lens for some time - assuming it complies with the generic DG DN aesthetic rendering style and performance. A 90mm is much easier to do this with than their other more challenging wider lenses. The price is a further excellent inducement.

Personally, it would displace the high micro-contrast but colour-problematic Loxia 85mm and the very sharp ($600) Sony 85/1.8 which is a good general purpose lens that lacks the extra class needed for image depth and has troublesome over-expressive colour and at times, overly blurred bokeh and bokeh lining. The Sigma's 0.5m MFD compares favourably with this Sony's (and the Loxia 85mm) at 0.8m. It can really matter with the Sonnars in tight spots.

The new 90/2.8 is less than half the stated weight of the Loxia 85mm, and it may be the nearest thing we have to a light manual focus lens with AF in the mass market. Particularly if what Dustin Abbott says of the 65/2 remains true for this one: 'The focus ring has a nice feel to it, and Sigma has done a good job emulating traditional manual focus.' They might have made further strides on that front.

My crystal ball is only, like, 5% accurate on predictions, but I was right about Sigma adding a 90mm to the i-line, so let's see if I'm on a roll. The SL 28/2 has started shipping (there's even a couple on the boards), so, if I'm right about Sigma holding off on a DG DN 28/1.4, we should hear something about it in the next six months.

The current 24mm f/3.5 has been a fun lens, but I have to admit a faster lens would be nice, as the f/3.5 has had it's limits in my use. So I might swap to the upcoming f/2 if renders nice (like the previous i-series have been doing). And the 90mm sure tempts me. Currently I have the 105mm macro as my teleportrait lens, which is on the large/heavy size and I rarely shoot bugs or any other macro subjects... The 90mm would be perfect option for me instead.

The 24/3.5 feels almost like a Leica R or Zeiss ZF lens mechanically. No other AF lens I’ve owned has had this gorgeous old school build quality. The aperture ring has metallic sounding «cluncks» each time you turn it, holding it next to your ear.

I surely didn’t kill any lens lust there.

I have two camera bodies: the 24/3.5 is always on one of them and the 45/2.8 is always on the other. A light, small 90/2.8 with the rendering of the 45/2.8 would make a spectacular set.

My fave FLs are 21-35-90. If Sigma releases something between 18-21, which I doubt cos they have 2x 24, that would make me ditch my Loxia set.

The small 90 interests me. I would assume it comes in the solid construction and less clinical iq of the 45.

As a Panasonic user the 24mm seems very very interesting, but also Panasonic is about to release its 24mm (at least according to rumors'), so its going to be a choice between better autofocus (Panasonic) vs better built, (SIGMA). Cant say if the sigma will have better image quality but must certainly it will have a better built. Issue with sigma is the horrible pulsing in afc with pana cameras....

I will definitely get one of the two.

Yes, I must say that in my experience, and I think also others, all of the Loxia have beautiful color and contrast. It is one of their most praised qualities. I don't really like MF lenses but I have hung onto three of these because of their look. What do you find displeasing? I know you are very particular about specific characteristics in your lenses to fit what you want in your photographs.
