Anyone compared the 24mm sigma to the 24mm pana? Any comments? trying to decide with which one to go... For photo, not interested that much in video. Thanks!

Fred, when you get around to making your usual thorough landscape tests for the 90/2.8, could you please include some images that are corrected for distortion?

Yes, I will do before and after correcting at the optimal aperture for the corners. From the MTF graph, I'm expecting a gradual fall off towards the corners due to astigmatism, LaCA or both.

Do you know if LR can use the super resolution feature when applying lens profiles?

Today I tried the Sigma USB Dock to tweak focus with a couple DG DN lenses in L-mount and it worked great.

By default focus throw is set to 'Long' and that's why it takes a lot of rotation to nail focus with I series DG DN primes.
Aside from letting you update the lens firmware, which I believe can be done without it, the dock allows one to tweak focus throw from Long to Standard or Short.

I set the 24/3.5 and 45/2.8 to "short" and it works so much better now.

Sigma should offer Sigma USB Dock compatibility to the DG DN E-mount lenses as well. This is a game changer for those who enjoy manual focusing.

I don't know if LR can do that directly, but you should be able to apply the lens profile and save the file as a tif, which can then be processed by LR (or by Topaz Gigapixel AI).

Edit: fix typo

Due to the long focus throw on my e mount A7III it is difficult to estimate which way I should turn to focus, is this different if the lens software is adjusted to "short"?

Changing the setting from long to "short" was a game changer for me as I am actually enjoying manual focusing the Series I lenses now. It's easier to focus for sure on the 24 and 35i lenses. Problem is that this can't be tweaked for the Sony, since the dock is not compatible with the E-mount version lenses for whatever reason.

Today I have contacted Sigma about this, they are going to see what is possible..
I will of course post about this if something interesting comes out

Hi Fred, Both Panasonic and Leica L cameras offer manual focus turning angle option, but it seems that it doesn't work with Sigma Lens. This is disappointing consider it is a L mount alliance. Given SL2/S can update Sigma lens firmware, I really don't want to buy another dock just for this.

Rather than a crude «long» or «short» I would like to specify the total angle from infinity to the near limit.

Yes for the Sigma DG DN L Mount, only the dock can tweak their manual focus action.
Sigma DG L Mount don’t need the dock since the are equipped with real helicoid mechanisms. Leica SL and Panasonic L-mount lenses can have MF tweaked in camera.

Agree. The Leica SL2/SL2-s cameras offers focus throw angle options, going from 90 degrees (short) all the way to 360 degrees (long) in small increments. The default is "Standard" which seems affect focus based on rotation speed (non-linear). There is also a "Maximum" setting which is the most "linear" from my testing.

Here is how the "MF Settings" can be tweaked in-camera for the SL2/SL2-s when using SL and Panasonic lenses: (Not Sigma DG DN which need the Dock for MF tweak)

Thanks for testing it out and reporting I just ordered the L-mount dock from Sigma online shop for my native L-mount Sigmas (24/35i, 35/2i, 45/2.8i, 28-70/2.8) as it wasn't priced too high and it would be nice to try out all these customization options. I'll probably go for the short throw option for all those lenses too. Would indeed be very nice to have such customization option for all the E-mount Sigmas as well as I have 6 of those.

I just received the Sigma 24/2 and 90/2 DG DN in L-mount and was surprised to see zero distortion in my RAW files.

Leica does differently than Sony here and not only corrects for lateral CA but also automatically corrects for distortion. I can't even see the undistorted version in LR since there is no way to change that setting in-camera. I guess I will try RawDigger for that.

I like this approach because it's nice to see undistorted images when shooting and editing but I wish there was a way to turn it off for images that don't need correction. I just don't know how much impact this has on IQ yet.

Here is what the "Built-in Lens profile applied" reads:

Visited Milliken Park in October 24, 2021.
Used Panasonic S1R
Sigma 24mm f2 DG DN displayed impressive sharpness and color rendition
I took about 3 shots at this park and feel it is great lens to add in S system.

I know ACR and LR will provide correction profiles soon, but from the Sony side, the Sigma 24mm f/2 just had too much barrel distortion for my taste. The lens was returned.

I do not see distortion so far. For Leica L side, no need to seek further.
I am very happy with Sigma L series lenses.
