Have had great results so far with "Vello Freewave Plus". It's a bit less expensive and uses 2.4 GHz WiFi instead of bluetooth for a range of ~300 ft. It's a 2-pc system with cable and not as well built as the Sony but so far performs as advertised. Good luck...

I asked Nick Didlick who is in Tokyo now shooting and he said he uses the pocketwizard plus iii's. I follow him on Instagram. Maybe someday I'll own enough a1's to use one remotely. 😀

I have Sony RMT-P1BT, and also Sony Vlogger Accessory Kit, GP-VPT2BT, doubles as tripod. Works well.

My Sony RMT-P1BT died and I replaced it with this one:

About a third of the cost of the Sony and having identical features and performance.

I use Pocket Wizards exclusively, the Multimax and Plus III models on the A1. Don't trust the others unless I am shooting up close. That said, even the Pocketwizards fail me on occasion.

Pocket Wizards for me too, I have the E-Release versions; I’ve not had any issues since I went to the E-Release but did have rare problems with the previous iterations when obstructions blocked receivers.

Sometimes the P1BT will "die" when all that is wrong is the electrical contact blades in the battery compartment need to be bent a bit so they make good contact with the battery terminals. There are two blades in the bottom of the compartment that make contact with the negative surface. Bend them up slightly so they press firmly against the battery when it's installed. The most likely problem is the small blade on the upper left side that makes contact with the positive terminal. Flex it inward so it presses firmly against the side of the battery when it's inserted.

If you make sure the battery is making good electrical contact sometimes the dead remote control is revived. It's happened to me a couple of times.

Are there any wired, no battery needed remotes that work on the new models?

I use bulb mode for long exposures on my star tracker.

I have zero interest in apps or wireless setups. But it doesn't seem the A7C or A1 have the ability to use a simple wired remote.

Is there one?

The Sony RM-VPR1 says it works with the A1.
No battery, powered by the camera.
It seems to be compatible with all Sony cameras.

I currently use that with my A6100, A7S and A7R3. It has the micro USB connector and I thought the move to USB-C made it unusable with the new models.

They only last about a year but otherwise are very good.

I bought the same remote for my A1. It is getting power as the red light blinks and I was able to pair the remote with my camera. Bluetooth is on. Airplane mode is off.
I press the shutter button and nothing happens. Any ideas?

"Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl" must also be on.
Other than that I have no useful suggestions.
