This is due to the VR unit not being disengaged correctly. It’s usually caused by a VR lens being dismounted from the camera body without the camera body being turned off.
I did the same thing when I was trying out the lens at the camera shop before paying for it. Then I realized the camera is still on. Just mount it back onto the camera, turn the camera off, and dismount the lens.
Now that we are back into semi lock down again so there is not much chance for me to go out to take many picture. Here is one from around my apartment, just something to keep me occupied when not working

I went to two local camera stores and they basically laughed when I asked about available stock. Tried to support local and hit a smaller market than the big stores. But, that didn't work for me so I went to B&H. Ordered it about a month ago and they just say "No work from Nikon on when the next shipment will come out"
Yet, I have been getting ads online FOR THIS LENS. Incredibly irritating lol.

Has anybody found that they can't use the lens with mechanical shutter? Somebody I know seems to only be able to shoot this lens with the electronic shutter and that honestly just sounds weird to me.
Just in case anyone else on this thread has been waiting on their pre-order from June like me, my camera dealer, Hunt's in New England, called me yesterday afternoon that my 105 S is on the way today.
Seeing example photos I caved and put my preorder in this week (with Camera Canada in Ontario). They got a small shipment on Monday (fully allocated to previous pre-orders), but said I should be getting it when the next one comes (whenever it is).

I've noticed the same thing on my Z7. If I have another lens attached and I'm set for "Mechanical", then switch lenses out to the 105 it seems to stay. Once I've selected a different shutter type the "M" setting is grayed out and becomes non-selectable. I have looked in the users guide and not found anything about this. To me it's a curiosity and I guess it could be by design. If anyone knows about this it would be nice to hear.
Stock update - supply issues might be overblown a bit. I just got shipping notification here in Canada (2 weeks after placing my order). Will take a bit to get to me from Ontario to BC, but I have nothing to complain about.
