Thanks Robert for the comment and the tips! I had a blast to say the least
Shot from a 10 foot Liquid Logic Kayak "sit in"
Ricky
Yesterday afternoon I pushed myself to go out to a couple of outfitter stores and look at kayaks. There was a yak "standing on end" in a store and i liked the lines of it, but it looked to be a good 16 feet long. Yet, the sticker on its side said “Tsunami 120 (or 125?)". Anyway, I could not believe that yak was just 12 feet in length (but it was). It looked huge!
I’ve seen many folks grab the gunwale at midships, pick their kayak up by one hand, and lean over and lug it up a short distance to their vehicle. But I wondered just how heavy it felt. Of course, that depends on the conditioning and strength of a person is.
Most folks kayak in pairs with each having their own kayak. That way they carry both kayaks by simply getting between the two kayaks, with each person lifting the kayaks by their handles. That works and its another reason why I would like the companianship of a nice girlfriend who loves the outdoors as I do.
So, for the first time I looked at a few 10 footers. There was one there named the "Aspire 100”. I found that it actually looked desirable from the perspective that it would be easy to lug it to and from my truck. Why not? Well, there is my ego, which would never allow me to be seen in a 10 footer. Ok, I admited it. But seriously, if the young-of-the-year loons decide they are going to hang around their natal pond, I can find myself alone on a basin well into the cold falll months. That changes things, requring an extra level of safety. If I capsize, there is nobody on these basins in November. So I begin wondering how stable a 10 footer is vs a 12 footer.
By now you are getting the idea that this guy seems way too analytical. And you may be right
The 10 footer would not track well but I have been paddling from boyhood. I know how to angle the blade so the craft will go straight or maybe use the j-stroke. Not certain about the last sentence because my paddling has been mostly in a canoe.
It’s a lot of information and by the time I figure it out, anoother season may be gone. I need to buy something and push myself out there to my loons. That is what is important. I am going to take a peek at this Liquid Logic 10 “sit-in” now.

Robert
10 footer Pros - about 42 lbs(lighter with the seat removed) and will fit in a van or truck bed easily.
The Cons - For a long paddle it may not be the best option although the Perception and Liquid Logic have worked well for me(tracking was not an issue). The cockpit may be too small depending on your height. I am 5'8" and I had plenty of room for me and my 600/D500 combo with hood and TC(fit perfectly with the body base sitting on the cupholder(I used the cupholder to place my monopod foot in when in shooting position).
I was pleasantly surprised that this LL 10 footer(borrowed) has the same seat as my Native Watercraft 12 footers. This would be a MUST option for me. I sat in this boat for 5 hours without getting out and was comfortable the whole time. And the seat is removable if you need to lighten the load.
Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you would like more info.
