Hi Rich,
Do you know which glass Kolari uses for their UT conversion? BG39? Do you know the thickness of the coverglass as well?

Hi Fred,
I am not sure which glass is used by Kolari Vision. The Kolari Vision website indicates, I believe that the the UT sensor cover is supposed to be 0.2mm in thickness. From conversations with Vivek (realvivek), I believe that he has indicated that the total thickness of the sensor stack is about 1 or is it 1.2mm?.
You may wish to contact Ilija at Kolari Vision. He should be able to provide much information that is not on their website.
Also, you may wish to look at Derek (Derek Zaraza) (sebboh on FM) who had the UT sensor modification performed on his A7 and wrote this article on phillipreeve.net:

I'm coming back around to seriously considering this lens. I'll be using it on aps-c though and the closest match I can get for samples is to look at the cropped area out of an A7r4 image as it shares the same (pretty much) pixel density.
Of course I have looked at Fred's original comparisons tests, to be honest I find it difficult to judge from them though with the crops rather than the whole image. I've also had a good look at Juha's A7c album, again hard to really see what I need to with the crop to aps-c then being much lower resolution.
I'm wondering if anyone could point me to, or perhaps post, a few high res samples from this lens shot on a stock A7r4? Ideally something that illuminates the potential issues from filter stack mismatch around the edge of the aps-c crop area.

I'm using the older 28 f2 Ultron version and happy with the images it makes.
Would it be a worth while upgrade to the new 28 f2 typ 1 or 2?
What is the difference between the Type 1 and 2 versions of the lens?
I have the 21mm 3.5 and like that vintage styling..
Thanks
Mark
Hi Mark,
I do not have any experience with the V1 of this lens. But, to my understanding there are some real improvements made in the design and performance. Fred, many others, and I have been very happy and impressed by the new lens performance. Yes the lens does suffer from vignetting, but this is a very easy fix in LR.

Version II of the 28mm f/2 Ultron is based on a design more like the earlier 28mm f/1.9 LTM. I have both versions of the f/2 and have the f/1.9 LTM. All three are quite capable. One can chase specs and nuances all day (imo). If you're interested in something different, take a look at the DJ Optical (7Artisans) 28mm f/1.4.
As far as I'm concerned, the main reason for looking at Version II of the Ultron would be for the small size. Of the three I prefer the LTM version but use all three on an M-240 and Z7.

The older f2 is a bit larger, but not all that much and if the image quality between them is not an issue this one will work just fine.
I use the TTArtisan 50mm 1.4 and love that lens, but it's big and heavy compared to smaller offerings from Voigtlander. The 7Artisans 28 is fast, but it's even bigger than the 50mm I have. I like clicky aperture rings and most 7Artisans lenses are clickless from what I have seen.

The 7Artisans 28/1.4 is indeed larger and heavier than the TTArtisan 50/1.4 but its size and weight are IMO its only disadvantages. It has click stops at full aperture values.
