Searched this site and didn't see any post so I figured I would start the discussion. My A1+70-200gm combo is freezing exactly the same way as the linked topic on DPReview. I was almost convinced it was my A1 or my lens but it sounds like a wider spread issue. Anyone here having this problem or have any potential fix?
No, it hasn’t happened to my A1 but I haven’t used the GM 70-200mm on that camera yet. So far, I have used only two lenses with my A1, the G 200-600 and GM 600mm.
I've never had an A1 lockup but I also don't have that lens. I use 100-400, 200-600 and 600GM.
FWIW I mostly use Sony batteries but also use a RAVPower clone sometimes. Always in the Sony battery grip. I use 300mb/s SD cards exclusively. Delkin Power most of the time. Sony Tough if I fill my Delkins.

Curious, what are you power saving/sleep settings?
I would have to check but sleep setting isn't an issue, I'm constantly half pressing the shutter to keep the camera awake and know that when the lockup happens the camera wasn't asleep prior to the lockup.
It happened once but I am convinced it was the blackout issue and my patience was low so I just switched it off and on again. I think it eventually would have come back on its own. I am using the 600GM exclusively

For me this definitely wasn't a blackout. I've experienced the blackout frequently when in harsh lighting and this is very different.
I remember seeing people report lock-ups with the 70-200 on the facebook group. Maybe take a look over there to see if there was something common among them

I'm not on FB but thats a good idea. One of the setting suggested on DPR was to turn off anti-flicker. Have a baseball game to cover so I'll try that and see if there is any improvement.
I've experienced this once. about 2 weeks ago. viewfinder had a frozen image and it wouldn't shoot. I can't remember if I was using my 135 or my 100-400. I turned the camera on and off a couple times with the same results. I missed the shot and walked on. I thought it was the blackout people were talking about but it wasn't black.

Hasn't happened since.
That isn't the blackout issue.... the blackout issue is when the sun hits the EVF sensor so when you bring it up to your eyes it doesn't change from the LCD to EVF. Essentially the sun blinds the sensor and it has trouble recovering quickly.
I am on 1.01. But I don't remember exactly when I updated and if the problem was before or after. Like I said it only happened once. And I wasn't in a sunny spot.
I have that combination. It's my favorite go to portrait combination. Captured a few thousand images with it the last couple of months with proms, seniors sessions etc. and not a single issue. Hopefully it's an isolated issue.
