I shot a little with this lens today. Its so good! Such a difference between it at 1.2 and the 35GM at 1.4. Really noticeable! I can’t afford to drop 3K on a lens (Cdn) but it was fun to test drive!
Fast 50mm lenses are perhaps new to many users. Subject choice and isolation is critical, particularly when buyers feel compelled to shoot at f1.2 - the raison d'etre of the lens. These decisions have little to do with focus speed or even AF. The lens gets used in many casual settings. People like the bokeh very much, so much so that, often in an inverted way, it becomes the mainstay of the images.

Yep.
I've shot fast (1.1, 1.2, 1.4) lenses for many years.
Takes time and experience to realize that sometimes stopping down a bit makes for a more compelling image.
IMO some focal point should be (relatively) sharp.
Otherwise I can sorta do the same thing with f/2 and missed focus.
I was looking through the Metadata on hundreds of shots I have taken with this lens and realized that the only aperture I have shot with this lens is f1.2. One day, I should try it stopped-down for the heck of it... well, maybe.
A1, GM 50mm f1.2, ISO 100, 1/80, f1.2, AD600 with beauty dish & sock, processed.
