Hey, what happened to the picture of the Porsche? I love Porsches, raced them for many years.

I love dogs too. This is the first time in my life I haven't had one.

Take pictures of anything you want. Just look at how much people spend to take pictures of birds. Makes the 50 f/1.2 GM look cheap.

Pictures are priceless.

I would love to eventually get this lens. If it ever gets to the 1k ish price point

I'm sure it will get to this price point eventually, in about 15 to 20 years.... inflation will play a big part in it too, the Canon EF 50 1.2 was released 2006 which is 15 years ago at the price point of $1600, you can get a used for about $900 today(but that's after Canon moved on to new RF mount), but inflation is worse right now so it will take longer, but if you talking about $1000 in today's buying power then maybe I'll say 10 years.

My point? Just buy it and enjoy it for the next 10 years!

Trigger warning:

Garish vinyl covered 50GM photo.

In all seriousness - people do love it. Shot my niece’s wedding and it made for great candid shots. Loving the 50GM.

My 50mm lenses (including the ZA 50mm f1.4), mostly sat on the shelf; that is, until I acquired the GM 50mm f1.2. This lens is amazing!

I found that dry comment absolutely hilarious.

To explain the joke: for me it's not so much the money itself. I'm running around with a similarly expensive setup shooting sparrows. While expensive, this is also certainly among the most capable gear in existence. We are in a thread that's showcasing and hyping it's qualities. And than this photo of a cute dog really stands out.

Dutch angle from the top. Focus on the hair above the eyes. Except for some eye brows entirely out of focus. Eyes neither visible, nor hidden in a creative way. Dog looking where-ever, facing the close edge of the frame. No activity, no hint of something happening. Needlessly B&W. That shot really looks to my eyes as if the photographer could not be bothered to get up from his sofa. Would IMHO make a good example of how not to shoot a dog.

Donzo has since posted another dog shot that proves he isn't incapable, which kind of spoils the fun. Anyway, I had a healthy lough. I hope Hope Donzo isn't overly offended.

Not offended at all... I guess that's why there are asses for every seat.

I actually like the first one I posted (which is why I posted it)... a little different than the straight on one I shot later.

BTW... I read your post to her... she got a kick out of it She can't seem to stop laughing.

"No eyes in focus... and needlessly B&W.... and a good example of how not to shoot a dog." Why would that offend anyone... LMAO.

The first dog photo actually stands out the most for me ...
I'm happy that photography is not science, so that the "results" are not the same for everyone...

This thread put me over the top to buy the 50 GM. 50 1.4 is my most used lens and I've rented the GM I know its an amazing lens but I was trying to be responsible. However, seeing and hearing over and over how happy everyone is finally got me to pull the trigger (plus looking at some of the shots I took with it when I had rented it too). It really is a special lens and since I use that focal length the most I managed to justify it to myself (and more importantly my husband!)

Nice shot... is this a cropped significantly??

You have a lot of DOF for a shot at 1.2.

Here's my wrapped 35 GM... shot with the 50 @1.2. I actually just sold this to partially fund the 50. I bought the same wrap for the 50 (waiting for it).

Not significantly. It's cropped to 3694 x 5541 from 4000 x 6000.
