Ah, that makes sense since they're a linear mechanism. I just checked my 135 GM and noticed the exact same thing. The 35 GM isn't as noticeable, but it is there if you give it a light shake (as opposed to rocking the lens back and forth).

is it just me or is there a distinct lack of photos with this lens on Flickr? I know it's a new lens and all but I just thought more people would have posted photos. Maybe I'm doing the wrong search of "Sony 50mm f1.2 GM".
It’s a brand new lens that costs $2100 at a focal length many people probably have covered. Wouldn’t be surprised if there aren’t a ton of people sharing the images from it just yet.

Probably because Flickr is all but dead after the sale and changes. I dropped my pro plan and stopped uploading there, and judging by the lack of activity I’m not alone. It’s only a matter of time before it’s sold again or completely shut down. The audience has moved from photo forums and Flickr to Facebook and Instagram. It’s a sign of the times.

Extreme dynamic linear motor will move when there is no power.

That's my impression as well, there is something different in its rendering, maybe that extra smoothness. It might be bias of course, but as of now I think it produces more dreamy look.
