p.2 #1 · Canon EOS M50 Mark II Impressions

I really like the M system. 11-22,22, 15-45. 55-200 is a complete system. And if you get serious, 40stm adapted and the 35 native and sigma lens. There are not a lot of lens choices but the ones they have make this a very versatile body for hiking or backpacking or just walking arm in arm with the wife on the beach or as general use if you don't mind apsc.

But for me the M50ii needs to have a built in evf, ibis, and 34mpx (form M6ii) to make it compelling.
EVF makes it useful for wildlife - without EVF its tough to shoot wildlife with the body extended on your arms. IBIS makes the rangefinder lens work on it.

I have the M5 and am waiting for m5ii with 34mpx and IBIS before upgrading.

The M50 Mark II does have Eye AF in Servo though and I find it tracks really well! IBIS is something I definitely do miss though and wish it was included..

Yes, its the same eye AF as the M50. It isn't up to the speed of the R series (nor has the deep learning library), but that is okay, the price differential is too large to expect otherwise.

I thought the original M50 only did eye AF in single shot and not Servo? But yes definitely not on the level of the R6 and R5 but night and day better than my old M5!

I believe you are correct. Also, it had a "Live+Tracking" mode, but no ability to use a small box or AF point as the starting point for tracking. You were always at the discretion of whatever the camera felt like tracking (you have the option to select various targets by guiding the red target circle, but it is a slow process).

Thanks for the confirmation, I remember reading that when I was looking at which to get. Sounds like I was much better off getting the Mark II then and I’m glad I never switched for the original M50 😅
