p.1 #1 · Canon R5 eyepiece replacement?

Has anyone found a softer eyepiece to replace the original? I can't be the only one to find this eyepiece to be too firm and uncomfortable. I've searched more than once and have yet to find anything. I'm hoping somebody has had better luck than me.

I really wish someone would make a large eye cup replacement like the Hoodmans I had in my DSLRs. The Canon cup comes off easily with two screws so there's no technical reason it couldn't be done.

I may look into creating an 3d printed eyecup extender like I did with the 5D, 7D and 1D series.

I haven't even found an OEM replacement. Mine got roughed up slightly, and although it's just a minor cosmetic issue, I'm interested in replacing it with an original one.

Call Canon customer service. I think the fact that the eyecup is held in place with two tiny screws, they didn't feel the need to have replacements since they wouldn't be popping off unlike the DSLRs.

If you do, let us know how much it is and if there is a part number.

The fact that its held in place with screws makes me wonder if the rubber piece will actually separate from the lower sensor piece. It would be bad news if it isn't user replaceable. Of course, Canon could possibly offer a second softer more pliable replacement. More like what was on their DSLRs.

It comes off easily.

If true, that first one is exactly what I want. But given the photos are clearly not of an eyecup that fits the R5, I have my doubts. It still might be worth the risk.

Good idea, thank you. I called and have the part coming (eventually) because it's currently back-ordered. It's only about $6, but with taxes and shipping I was charged close to $14. That's not bad compared to the part from the other link in this thread, although that was also much appreciated.

Also, in case someone else is interested, as long as I heard the part number correctly it is CB5-8205-000.

Thanks again! It was a very pleasant experience on the phone with Canon (I never called them before).

Edit: Just got the confirmation email - the part number is correct.

Just shows how much dust can collect in those view finder's, as well as on the eyecup. I tried to clean mine periodically

And mine's only a few months old and has seen little use outside of the house thanks to Covid.

Wow, that's great. I wouldn't have guessed they would use screws just to hold the rubber piece on. Thanks.

So I took a chance and ordered the R6 version of the eye cup. The pictures shown appear to be the actual product, which does not fit the any of the RF bodies. It probably fits a Canon DSLR, but definitely not the R6.

Oh. Lol. They most definitely can but its not a reproduction if there isn't one available. Haha. If you want to get technical, they wouldn't be counterfeit as they aren't passing it off as Canon made products.

Canon never released an eyecup extender for the 1D series, 5D 3+ series, 7D series and there was only 2 companies (or 1 company just different name?) that made one. They stopped making it a few years back. So who took over the slack? Me but now with mirrorless, sales have died down. I know eyecup extenders have been useful to people so there are needs for them.

Like any product, I guess the demand has to be there. So why not take advantage of it now since no one has made one? Never know, these 3rd party may never make one. Similar to the RF 35mm lens hood. They make the same screw-on hoods that Canon makes but no one makes a bayonet type. So I offer them.

I understand the market may be too small for anybody to make knockoffs, especially of Canon RF. I have at least one generic Canon EF lens bayonet hood, but that was five years ago.

It all depends on the market and item. They all try and reproduce what Canon makes so they can take some of the market away since we all know Canon products are expensive as hell (ie $40-50 for a small plastic screw on lens hood?) but not think about the needs for photographers. Even if its a small sliver.
