New to the forum. Does your 150-500 make a whining noise when powered on? It stops when the shutter is half pressed but returns when the shutter is released. Turning off AF or VC has no affect. Does the Sigma 150-600 e mount make similar noise? Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. I haven't noticed any noise like you describe coming from mine. I'm hard of hearing though.

You are not alone, in a german forum (and my copy also) got this whining noise. It is not a defect, it has something to do with the coils used by tamron. no need to worry
Thanks to all who responded and checked into this. I bought this lens less than 2 weeks ago brand new.
Called vendor B&H today. They put the lens on a a6600 to duplicate the issue, while I watched via video chat. The rep said it is silent and mine must be defective. Had her try the Sigma 150-600 e mount and it was silent also.
Found a Youtuber called Snapchick (seems like a legit photographer) that also heard the noise when all else was quiet. ....
Since I have conflicting responses that say both it's silent, AND it makes noise but thats normal, I dont know what to do.

What are opinions on the "flex zoom lock" mechanism on this lens? I like the idea of locking to any focal length. Does it ever frustrate your zooming efforts if unintentionally locked?
