With respect to Leica M, it's a ill wind that blows no good. The design and configuration of the cameras limit the size of lenses developed for them, so maybe we will be lucky to see the slower lenses become more popular.
I'd definitely opt for f3.5 lenses at 21mm and 35mm APOs from Cosina, for sure. It's only half a stop down from the 'socially acceptable' f2.8. But with the styling of the 50/3.5, Cosina have placed it very clearly as a retro kind of lens. That might indicate the audience they think will buy such lenses.
Some time back, Lloyd Chambers wrote about his wish for a set of high end f4 lenses that were made for landscapes and other small aperture photography. It might have to do with the pathway we all take into the current state of play, what you get used to at that formative stage.
Mine was via years of medium format film where f4 was the norm. Those medium format lenses, from Zeiss, Mamiya, Fuji and others were very high quality, from wide open. Most were f3.5 or f4, usually with similar element counts as Cosina uses today: 7/5, 8/5, 10/7. Mamiya's famous and radical 43mm (equivalent of 21mm on full frame) was f4.5 and had an 10/6 design.
