How is the noise level at ISO 1000-3200 and how are you guys processing for those noise levels? Most of the examples posted look good after whatever processing you've done. Thanks in advance

If the camera wake up so quick why don't leave it to 10s or something? Or it's still slow for BIF kind of situation?
Because quick, isn’t instant. It’s still like 10ms slower than dslr, so I don’t even want to risk missing a frame if I have to switch cameras for a different focal length. It’s just part of my workflow.

Just my normal slight denoise in capture one. I don’t use topaz or anything external
Two more images here; one of a bird or peregrine falcon to be exact and the other is a non-bird , while waiting for some falcon actions. I programmed in C4 on my camera to toggle through the Eye-AF options: Human, Bird and Animal. FYI, I do a fair amount of portraits/people photography. So, that setting makes my life easier. Yes, that of the squirrel was captured using the Animal setting and it picked the eye up right away.
My first outing with the G 200-600mm lens for wildlife and it performed splendidly this morning. I used that lens to capture the skyline of Downtown LA yesterday evening but there was not much an AF evaluation for that lens on this body.
Guys, if you don't stop posting such amazing birds shots I will feel compelled to counter with dpr-lens-review-level (nothing against dpr of course, but I often find their lens review images uninspiring) non-bird images .
A couple from today, I got out of work and spent a couple of hours hoping for some eagles but it was one of those days with great lighting but not much action going on. It was nice to be out though, 62F felt very nice
The one eagle that came anywhere close was still pretty far out.. this is cropped to 10mp then downsized for viewing here. Other the that just a couple of Mallards that flew by.
A few with the 600/2x...I struggled to get sharp shots with this combo today...not sure if it was my sloppy technique, air quality (as I only started using it when the sun finally broke out of the clouds) or something else?
Anyways these ones look okay but I found my bare 600 shots of the same male bufflehead in the same location (see previous set above) looked way better despite being way smaller in the frame.

Testing has shown that when scaled down to equivalent size everything but the a7S iii are almost the same. Some actually prefer the higher MP sensors when scaled down because of the smaller noise speckles and the increase in potential detail. I wouldn't let noise be the reason to not get an RIV or a1.
I was looking at the dpreview studio comparison and even when scaled down, the 24MP photos look cleaner. I was wondering if this holds true out in the field as well.

I'm actually seeing very poor battery life. Today I'd shot about 2000 frames in 3.5hrs and was already at 80% of the 2nd battery. Both were 100% when I went out.
Yesterday I also went into the 2nd battery in 4hrs.
I'm not sure what might be draining mine so fast. I have Airplane mode On. But I do have the Power save feature at 30mins so it never really goes to sleep. Maybe that is the big difference.
What is your Power Save Start Time set at?
I've heard running the EVF at 240Hz (vs 120Hz) really sucks the battery down.
I also used the A1 today. I have set the lowest frame rate and airplane mode was on. My 2nd battery only remains 25%.
If I shoot with A9ii, I don't need 2nd battery.

(the URL needs to be copy/pasted, otherwise it will show a blank comparison)
One needs to factor in the AA filter. If you look at the brush a bit down for your chosen POV you can see the big difference in detail in part due to the AA filer, helping the A9 images.
My workflow, depending on the output size (we usually downsize to 24 MP for venue/dance floor shots etc. as nobody needs 50-61 MP files for that) includes NR before doing the downscaling. I end up with oftentimes more apparent detail and images as clean or better.

I was trying it at 240 today for some of the time (but not all). I won't be using 240 anymore. Will see if today is any better just sticking to 120. I don't find any benefit of 240 and not sure it is even running at 240 as Sony manual says Finder Frame Rate will be limited if in ES and Continuous shooting (which is basically all I ever do with the camera).

Have not changed it from the factory setting. Let's see, it's at 1 minute! That might explain it.
I did shoot pretty continuously, or at least with my eye on the EVF, FWIW.
I’m going to set it to a shorter time today and see if that helps. As long as the wake up doesn’t cause me to miss shots. The A1 is a lot faster to wake so it may be okay. davesit wrote:
