I took some photos of a perched hummingbird in my yard just at dusk. Eye AF picked it up from a good distance away and stuck like glue when AF was active. The pre-eye-AF grey square was bouncing around a little erratically but once AF was engaged it settled to a very stable green box over the little hummer's eye.
The photo is not worth posting...better photos will be had tomorrow morning..booked off a few hours in the morning to go and shoot...couldn't bring myself to wait until Friday.

I would dub this camera as “Bird Photography Camera for Dummies”. Frankly, it feels like cheating... in a good way though .
Lol, exactly why I've ordered one. Moved from the Canon7DII to the a9II and 200-600 last summer. It made bird photography so much easier. I've told my birding friends the Sony gear makes it very "Idiot Resistant." Looking forward to a1's 50MP with as good or better focusing compared to the a9II.
Spent the last two days testing out the A1. So far it is meeting my high expectations, but it is still early. I am particularly impressed by the Bird's Eye AF. It seems to detect eyes and stick pretty well, even birds that are distant and in flight. Perched or slowly moving birds seem to reliably lock and stick.
I was at the lake photographing Grebes but there was a bunch of Swallows in the way. Got this shot of a Tree Swallow chasing a bug. The swallows did not get close so this is a major crop. It is a bit less than 9MP out of the 50MP and then down sampled to 1.5MP for this site. The AF did not have an easy time acquiring these birds and the eye AF was not reliable but it did trigger frequently. That may be mainly due to my poor tracking.
Literally right out of the box, on to a live paid shoot, because NFG.
Observations...
Whew its fast to startup and wake, whew the viewfinder is bright and yuuuuuuuuuge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
High iso noise: about a 1/3 of a stop worse than the a9ii at iso6400, but can hardly tell unless pixel peeping, and exporting to 5500px longest edge, i couldnt really tell.
Auto focus... yeah its all that they said it was. its awesome, its faster and stickier than the a9ii. I used expandable tracking Spot Small.
crop mode: ill be suing this more tomorrow, i didnt bring my 70-200 2.8 with me and underestimated how dim the arena was going to be. but tomorrow ill use my 70-200 with a 1.4x and use crop mode exclusively.
All of these are pretty heavy crops, id say about 30-40% or more, but thats where we are with covid protocol

Very nice. You have great colors. Are these OOC JPEGs or do you have special presets you use to process your RAWs? Do you shoot in portrait or did you crop them from landscape?

they arent direct out of camera, theyve been slightly edited, but not much due to editorial integrity. I dont shoot anything RAW when on deadline. I shoot both portrait and landscape, just depends on the play

A few from day 2 with the A1 / 600GM. Not particularly exciting subjects and pretty good crops, but the camera is impressive. Bird eye AF is working great, image quality is great (not when downsized for the forum lol), ISO performance is better than expected and a good bit better than the A7Riv IMO

No we are talking! Amazing capture particularly forr those of us that chase these tiny speed rockets that shift angles in flight every few nano-seconds, the Swallows can be damn frustrating to try to get a shot like this!

Thanks. I’m a bit surprised under your lighting it looks as good as it does. I would expect more magenta. Nice job and no birds which is helpful to me.
I used to shoot the Phoenix Suns from the floor back in the day. A lot better cams today

i dialed in the white balance to 5600k with a hint of green
