That is so weird...you would think that the adapter is simply translating the Sony lens signals into Nikon lens compatible ones. If the A1 breaks that translation, that means it's sending out different Sony signals than what the adapter expects. If this is what the A1 is doing, you would expect it to not work with current Sony lenses. Like I said, weird!
Yeah just goes to Purple square which is the no AF indicator. Canon MC-11 adapter still works as normal and I believe that adapter is mimicking one of the Sony adapters. Not sure what the Commlite is doing but it has had wild swings in functionality over the years. At one point the 300PF was capable of BIF, now it is just okay for perched on anything but the A1.

I just got mine from bh (came with firmware 2.0). So far all of my afs lens seems to af well enough given it's adapted (comparable to mc-11 with canon lens but maybe just a bit slower). Once you initially get into the focus range either via just pressing the shutter button to auto focus (it seems to auto focus in steps) or manually focusing it into range then it tracks reasonably well in AF-C for horizontal or vertical movements (using face detect or eye focus or just the focus point) on my A7iii. As expected it is more sluggish when trying to track significant movement towards or away from the camera. I've only tested it indoors in somewhat poor lighting and overall IMO, it's very usable for portraits and regular life stuff at least for the AF-S lens I've tried - 14-24 f2.8, 58 f1.4, 200 f2.
Build quality feels decent and mostly comparable to my sigma mc-11 - only thing is that there seems to be maybe 1mm play after the lens locks onto the adapter (non issue imo).

I still have a few interesting Nikkors unduplicated by Sony, etc. To Whit the 70-200 Flourite, 200mm F2.0, 200mm F4.0 macro, 105mm F1.4 as well as the 14-24 F2.8.
I just wanted to update that, IMO, the new Sony 70-200 f/2.8 GM II and the Sigma Art 14-24 f/2.8 DG DN are good Sony E mount alternatives to the F mount lenses you mentioned. Still no 200 f/2 or 200 f/4 Macro, however, and although the Sigma 105 f/1.4 DG maybe an alternative for some people to the F mount 105 f/1.4, the Sigma is a lot bigger, so wouldn't be a solution for some.

Any new update on this adapter or any other F-mount to E-mount adapter that may be worth buying at this point?
All adapters seem to have very mixed reviews. I don't expect good AF tracking performance but at least like to get aperture control as well as basic AF.

I got this adapter few months back and tested with three Nikon lenses.
First thing first, adapter came with firmware version 04 and not 03.
- Works great with Nikon 105 f1.4 and Nikon 200 f2 VR ii (in dark, focus can be slow but IBIS from Sony a7r V worked well with these lenses. I was able to get sharp images at 1/8 of a second) This includes testing in very dark room at night.
- Autofocus was slow with Nikon 500 f5.6 pf but still worked.
- Build quality is superb just like Nikon's own FTZ ii or canon's ef to R adapter. (unlike my MegaDap, very cheap quality)
