I still have a few interesting Nikkors unduplicated by Sony, etc. To Whit the 70-200 Flourite, 200mm F2.0, 200mm F4.0 macro, 105mm F1.4 as well as the 14-24 F2.8.

The original post refers, I think, to a recent announcement by a group in China who claim to be the original manufacturers/designers of the Commlite et al adapter... they claim they've created a new version of the adapter, this time under their own name, which performs better.
The Commlite etc adapters all had similar flaws, didn't they? They worked well with some lenses and very poorly indeed with others, in ways that seemed quite random and arbitrary. Some desirable lenses like the 200mm f/2 didn't work well on the adapters available to date.
Whether this "new adapter" from "Monster" is any real improvement, what price it'll be and when it'll be available for sale, is still a big empty unknown as far as I've heard. It would be nice if it worked, but who knows. Fingers crossed?

I would love to have an adapter that let the Nikon 500mm PF work well on a Sony body. I will be following this to see if any improvements are real. I keep hoping that Metabones of Sigma will make one

After reading this Monster announcement over on SAR I started to look if there was new FW for my Commlite. I see there was a v07 in May and a v08 in October. I'm going to update my Commlite today and see if 500PF works better. People on DPR said v07 started to get the 500PF working at least for perched birds.
Anyone updated to v08 and tried 500PF?
I'll be testing today if I have a bit of free time.
I wonder if this Monster one will be any better than v08 Commlite. I assume the Monster company are the ones that made the Commlite in the first place based on comments I've read on DPR and now here.

Make sure to let us know how much improvement you see on new firmware with 500mm PF. Even for bird on stick I would be excited. 500mm PF on an A1 sounds like victory! Or just an Apocalypse Now!

I actually brought all the stuff I need to work today so I can update it over lunch time. I also needed a Windows machine which I don't have at home to do the update. May even have enough time to run out to the beach and shoot some gulls/ducks with the 500PF.
Stay tuned...man if I can have a somewhat workable 500PF on my A1, I will be very pleased. Even if just for walking around birding and getting more perched shots.

v08 Commlite update:
With 500PF it is still barely useable. You can MF in to your bird as you keep AF active and it will take over AF once you have MF to almost perfect. Trying to have the lens focus without MF assist takes forever...it does do it but it is totally unusable.
The 300PF is good but it always was. It can drive itself in to a target relatively quickly. With 1.4TC on it gets a little slower. The 1.7TC still works also but not great.
Bottom line: 500PF is still a no go with the Commlite. Maybe this Monster will be better but I'm not likely to spend the money they are going to ask just to find out.

Tried the Commlite with FW v08 and the 200 F2 vI and I regret to report that is still borderline unusable as the FW v07.
It only works for static subjects and good light/contrast, and even in those scenarios it can hunt and hunt quite a bit in some instances, before finally nail focus. Totally useless for tracking anything moving of course.
I've also noticed quite a lot of focus inconsistency with the 1.7x TC.
So unless they've really made some miracle with this new adapter, I think it will be still a waste of money for the long lenses.

It's been 2 months now...anyone tried out the Monster adapter? I see it's available straight from China on eBay. Also, B&H claims it will be available through them mid-May.

I'm also hoping someone has tried it and can report.
Of note, the A1 totally breaks functionality with the Commlite. AF doesn't work at all with any of my lenses (300PF, 500PF). I don't have much hope that this Monster will magically make the 500PF work.

So, very eager to see which adaptor is best.
Right now the A1 has broken all functionality that was once present with the Commlite. Not sure if Commlite will update FW to at least bring back the old functionality (which on some lenses was perfectly useable for a lot of things other than fast action).

That is so weird...you would think that the adapter is simply translating the Sony lens signals into Nikon lens compatible ones. If the A1 breaks that translation, that means it's sending out different Sony signals than what the adapter expects. If this is what the A1 is doing, you would expect it to not work with current Sony lenses. Like I said, weird!

Sony dropped AF support for their LA-EA2 and LA-EA4 adapters in the A1. Maybe Commlite is emulating those adapters. Most third-party adapters emulate one of the LA-EA adapters instead of a native lens. That is one reason why they can't be stacked with the Techart E to Z adapter. Most of the logic to run the adapter is in the camera
