I am referring to California Brown Pelicans here. As the name indicates, the pelicans are... well, brown. Most of the times, photographers don't bother taking their pictures. But once a year, their colors are somehow a little bit more attractive and the most interesting part is their reddish pouch becomes more vivid and intense. It is during their breeding season! I included a few of in-flight images but I do like their preening images better.
These images were taken at the cliff of La Jolla, CA in January of 2019. A few FMers @birdied, @bobbytan, @1bwana1 were there as well. I just had the chance to select a few of them for edit yesterday.
Thank you for stopping by and I appreciate your leaving a feedback here,
Joshua

Excellent set Joshua !!! Just confirmed that none of my shots look anywhere near as good as these
One of these days hopefully can get back and have another go at it.
Birdie
I appreciate your kind words, Birdie! Well, you still had you M 4/3 system back then. It would be completely different now with your 61MP full frame camera .

Excellent set Joshua, incredible colors you've captured on the Pelican.
The breeding colors are just awesome! I wonder if the brown pelicans in Bolsa Chica are different, as breeding colors are not as strong as the La Jolla pelicans. Or maybe the Bolsa Chica pelicans are all down in La Jolla during the breeding season.

Lovely set, Joshua. Your second image is my favorite.
We see them when visiting Aruba, but have never been there during mating season. So no vibrant colors.
Cheers,
George
I appreciate your stopping by and your kind words, George!
