Looks great. I would have removed the cormorant in 5 and 6 as it is a bit distracting.
Thank you very much, Morten! The more I look, the more I agree with you. I should have removed the cormorant there.

Very nice Joshua. Great mix I like the flight shots a lot but my favorite is #2 sitting quite majestically with the beautiful blue background

Thank you very much, Dave!

Top notch IQ on all Joshua. I agree with cloning out the cormorant.
Thank you very much, Ted! Yes, I should have cloned out the cormorants. The next frame shows a lot of cormorants that perched there on the rock the pelican was about to land. That’s why I didn’t bother including the additional frames here.

The breeding colors are just awesome! I wonder if the brown pelicans in Bolsa Chica are different, as breeding colors are not as strong as the La Jolla pelicans. Or maybe the Bolsa Chica pelicans are all down in La Jolla during the breeding season.
Bobby, thank you! They are the same species and I did see some of them down here having the same or at least, similar colors but not quite as intense as those down there in La Jolla Cove.

Joshua, these are STUNNING images with incredible clarity and composition.
Stuart, thank you very much for your kind words. I am going to let you in on a secret... The lens I used for those is the same that you have . I did that prior to my GM days, in other words.

Well presented Joshua. Perched and BIF look great. Do you ever get them diving?
Rex
Thank you very much, Rex! Not there, no but I did somewhere else, like at Bolsa Chica during a feeding frenzy.

Idk about people not bothering to photograph these guys - they are absolutely gorgeous and you're so lucky to have them!
Thank you very much, OSP! When not in breeding season though, those brown pelicans are not that photogenic though .

These are spectacular Joshua. You're right, the breeding colors make all the difference. One of my favorite birds to photograph. So animated
Thank you very much, Gary! Although the pelican population in La Jolla Cove is high, we do have them down here closer to my location. Frankly, they are for sure less attractive when not during their breeding season.

Beautiful colors on the pelican, Joshua. So sharp! I have only seen white pelicans in our area, always pretty far away.
Douglas
Thank you very much, Douglas! The images were barely cropped, and then mostly more for composition. That helps making the details show up. They are not fast flyers and based on their size they are pretty easy to track. The only problem then, especially shooting using a prime lens, they can get so big that their wings are clipped. From time to time, I do get greedy for sensor real estate .

These are all really nice! I agree with you, though. In flight, they just look sort of ungainly. At least, just after takeoff or just before landing.
