I just sold this but if you don’t need a 1.4 than my opinion this maybe the next best AF option. I really liked it and it tested very well. Now a member has it and hope to see some nice images soon
In terms of pure size and weight, can Sigma 35/2 I replace 35/2.8 ZA or Sigma 45/2.8 I?
I have CV 50/1.2 SE and although it is a relatively small and light lens, I feel like it doesn't belong in the same lightweight category as the Sigma 45. Sigma 35/2 I is a little lighter than my CV 50 and a little heavier than Sigma 45, so trying to figure out which one it will feel close to in terms of sheer size and weight.
The size and weight of the 35/2 does not compare to the 35/2.8, it certainly will not replace that as a comparative pancake. It is also bigger than the 45/2.8 (but better).
I have the CV 40/1.2, and though it is technically a little heavier than the 35/2, by the time you have the hoods on, the CV lens is very slightly lighter. It is also a little less bulky (shorter).
Well, i purchased it to replace my 35/2.8 ZA and Sigma 45I mainly. I really hope it will be good enough in IQ to also replace Bigma and will be my only lens in this range.
I sold my Bigma because of this.
No regrets till now.
I like a lot nice bokeh/rendering in this focal range and this lens is providing it.
In my opinion better than the Sony GM of course compared at the same f stops.
No need for super resolution nor super contrast as I find myself to reduce it also an A7RIV to produce useable files. I prefer good pictures than good graphs.
I’m waiting to see how the new DN 35 ART works and I will take the final decision.
But to make me change from 340 gr. to 640 gr. there should be an effective strong improvement.
Still not entirely convinced... lens looks like a beauty but my experience with must sigmas is that the image is great, but lacks that magic that you get with other lens, perhaps is phycological, but is whats keeping me away from it.... (I been a 1424mm DG dn and 45mm owner).
I don't have any experience with Sigma zooms and Sigma 45mm is just a frustrating lens unfortunately, especially for shooting kids. However, IMO Bigma is in its own league. As much as I love Bigma, 1090 gm and its giant size is just too much to handle at times. GM is a great option and I considered it as a single lens solution, but i think it's a tad too heavy to be a daily run and gun lens. Also, its bokeh is harsh and distracting in some situations.
35I is not perfect either, but it seems to have the rendering qualities to match Bigma and GM in IQ and mechanical design to arguably best both in asthetics. It definitely beats both in size, weight and price and it is a notch above other compact options in the heavily crowded Sony 35mm FL segment.
Personally, i don't like overlapping FL and more lenses just make it harder for me to decide what to choose and what to leave behind at home. I want to keep it as simple as possible and as light as possible, so if IQ and rendering is good enough for my needs, my dear Bigma will need to find a new home.
Sold off my 35mm F2 DG DN and posted it to the mail today. I decided with my head (not heart) that the 35GM will now be my walkaround lens, as it provides that 1.4 (which I like to have for my kids indoor) and is still not too bulky. But I already miss the 35 F2's size and haptics, especially on my A7C. My ultra-compact prime solution now is the Sigma 45 (again), so at least I still have a nice rendering I series lens

Yea I had the same thoughts. Being the GM is still pretty small I can just use it. So I sold off my Sigma a few weeks ago. If the difference was bigger in size than that would have been better . I do like this lens though

So you managed to use the lens for a while and found it tp be lacking pop, or this special magic, that some call micro contrast? Thats what scares me, sadly i can test before buying...
