Bonjour.
Can you please tell something about AF and MF
Is it a fast focusing lens?
Fred will do a whole section on this, but my experience so far on my copy is AF-C and Eye AF are much better than they are on the Sigma 45 2.8 (which is poor).
But AF-C and Eye AF are slower and less accurate than the native FE lenses that I have on hand to compare it with (20G, 24 GM, 135 GM). It hunts more and loses Eye AF by panning the camera while holding down the shutter half way. But also not a very fair comparison as these FE lenses are some of Sony's best AF performance lenses. But if you're evaluating AF vs the new GM, I'd wager the GM will be much better at AF.
Manual focus experience is excellent, wish it had a hard stop, but understand why it doesn't.

Do you have the same experience with the Sigma 65mm f2.0?
I've read somewhere that it is at least as fast focusing as the FE55mm f1.8...
What you say about hesitating and loosing EYE-AF make me hesitate to buy...
These two things are the bottleneck of third party lenses...
Thank you for mention this!
Yep this gives me pause. I want this lens for AF work mostly. The eye AF is really important for me with this lens. I’ll wait to see more reviews.

I had a similar experience on my a7rii - I primarily shoot my kids, and found the eye-af tracking to be just okay, and not up to the competition of native options. Because I know longterm I would be frustrated by not hitting critical focus at f2 in key moments, I decided to return the 35 and stick with the 65 (which performs better in my experience). The GM preorder will be back on for me shortly since Sony eye-af has never left me unsatisfied. This minor “issue” aside, I loved the lens.
I had the 65i, but returned it because I wanted the CV 50 APO more.
However, my brief experience with the lens, and in particular the AF, was that it was good, not great. I felt it was accurate, but did hunt a tiny bit. But, take that with a grain of salt because my environment (available light, subjects, etc.) probably played a part in that.
Also, this is on v01, so a firmware update could potentially improve this. All in all, it wasn't the reason I returned the lens, but something I did notice, albeit not bothered by it too much.
If you have an A7III or newer generation camera, I wouldn't worry too much about the AF with the Sigma I lenses. It gets the job done. It would be unfair to compare it to any GM lenses, at least the newer ones.

Unfortunately same for me. I am returning mine too. But I have a 35 GM review copy I am picking up today so will do some comparisons with both before sending the Sigma back.

Let’s know as, according to other’s reviews, AF seems not to be the strongest point of this new GM.

Please post some side-by-side comparions, if you can. I am planning to stick with my existing 35s, but both the lenses are at the top of my GAS list. As GM got delayed, you might be our only hope to see any comparisons before April.

Thanks in advance.
Just posted a few in a new thread. Will continue to post a few more this week.
How does the 35mm f2 Sigma autofocus with newer bodies - like the A7RIV? I've read complaints about eye-AF with older bodies (A7RII), but what about with newer bodies? Thanks!
Oh that I don't know. 65i is the first 65mm lens I've owned so I don't mentally have a frame of reference. I've shot so many 35mm lenses that the moment I Iooked through the viewfinder I knew it was wider than a typical 35mm FOV. Whether that is a positive thing or a negative thing will vary. I actually prefer it for a lens that will be used as an everyday carry lens where it will shoot a variety of things. A little extra width means its easier to shoot with when the working distance is limited.

No issues with the a7c and a7riv. Have been shooting my kids primarily and it's worked fine
