We may need more info. Does your computer recognize the card? Post a bit more detail.

So, I'm assuming you are having 1 of 3 problems:

1. You are trying to copy files directly off of the camera via a USB cable. Canon does not support USB Mass Storage Mode. To copy directly from the camera you will need to use Canon EOS Utility to first transfer the files to your computer, and then you can import them in to Lightroom.

2. The other problem is that due to the way that most CFExpress cards are mounted, Lightroom does not work like it does for SD cards. CFExpress readers end up getting mounted as an SSD, and in Lightroom when you click on the root of the drive it shows nothing. If you expand it, and click on DCIM, it will also show nothing. BUT if you then click up above on the checkbox that says "Include subfolders" then it should work.

3. You are using an old version of Lightroom Classic that does not include support for the Canon R5 files. In this case, you will need to import the files using Adobe's DNG converter, generating files that your software supports.

I'm using current Lightroom CC...I pay ...I can import the files and process the photo but info from the card not saved in library.. I have to keep the card in the Sony card reader to access the photos again. When I used plain XQD cards no problem.

Let's check the simple solution first...Have you inadvertently changed your import to "Add" instead of "Copy" or "Move"?

From your description, "I can import the files and process the photo but ... I have to keep the card in the Sony card reader to access the photos again.", it would seem that Lightroom is reading your card just fine. It is building the catalog entry, and collecting the Develop history and Library metadata but not moving or copying the file to where you actually want it to be. That is to say, behaving just like the "Add" import is expected to behave.

This is the most likely situation. And I think it goes to the other point above on how CFE is mounted....when I first put my card in my reader, Lightroom saw it as an SSD, so defaulted to Add....and I needed to change it to Copy.

Although this was not the OP's problem, if I connect my 1D X Mark III via USB cable to my W10 PC it shows up as a device and I can copy files off the CFExpress card.
