I think frame rate does not matter.
Given how difficult it is to decipher the Sony manual I could easily be wrong.

Pretty sure you are right, the .7 magnification is mandatory only for the 240fps EFV mode. I still don't have my A1 though, probably stuck in the Suez-Canal

I think you are describing a defective unit.
If mine had those characteristics I would return it.

Thanks Dave but it's unlikely it's defective -- more likely just the way it's configured for video/wireless operation but it does seem to run hotter than my a7SIII.

I never made any inflammatory comments about the A1 on the other hand I compared it to a top notch camera like the R5, How can you say that's not a fair comparison. The R5 and R6 are the top selling cameras. the masses decide that not me. You need to watch more videos and read more reviews. Oh, stop running to your brothers and sister to attack me... we don't need them to settle your disputes.

You did and you know you did. I never said, nor did others, that the R5 and R6 aren’t top selling cameras, but I did say the R5 is a great and capable camera (as well as the R6). That said, they aren’t capable of everything that the Sony a1 can do. That’s a fact. I was a Nikon shooter for 10 years before coming to Sony and if I wasn’t shooting Sony now I’d likely jump over to canon as the R5 and R6 are superior to what Nikon currently offers (not that Nikon is blatantly inferior). I’ve watched and read a lot of videos/review on all the current full frame mirrorless options. I’m not sure what you’re talking about with brothers and sisters and haven’t gotten anyone involved. You are the one who said you were going to ignore me and or get Fred involved. I don’t need anyone to settle my disputes and don’t need to ignore anyone, including you.

Your post may be funny. It is also obviously unhelpful to the topic and deliberately offensive to at least some of the participants. In other words you were indeed trolling. Of course a single troll-ish post doesn't make you a troll. But complaining about the reaction to that post makes no sense either.

Why unhelpfull? The A1 was the camera I used as backup to the R5? I guess I should just recommend what people want to hear?

The word troll is thrown around a little too casually. People need to lighten up and take a joke. People getting mad because I throw up a two word sentence is just childish. This forum is ridiculous. I'm so close to closing my account.

Are you sure it ever zoomed out on 30fps? I only see the zoom out on Finder Frame Rate: Higher (Hi+/240fps).

You guys are correct. Total brain fart on my part because it was only in 240Hz that it zoomed out. I still get this mixed up because I'm certain in all the pre-reviews they noted it backed out when in 30FPS...but stupid me totally forgot that after 5 days away from the camera

Hi Geoff, please don’t.
I for one appreciate your images and insights.

I’m probably the only person on the planet who hasn’t tried 30fps since getting the camera so when I saw your question I gave it a try and could not get it to zoom out. I figured I was just clueless and didn’t set it up right so I didn’t reply but I’m glad to hear it wasn’t me

Yes, please don’t close your account. I thought your Canon A1 picture was hilarious and have never thought of you to be a troll. Plus, the insight you provide on different cameras and your photos are excellent.

So since you are paying money to Fred, we are supposed to treat your opinions different? You sure you'd even want forums to work that way?

I really don't understand what you think you are doing here. You make a bold claim, back it with zero personal experience, point to irrelevant youtube videos and then complain when people attack your statements.

I'm sure the ban button would work great on a gatekeeper like you.
You're just not being helpful to my purpose of understanding the AF and Tracking system of the A1.

I’ll be glad to once my a1 arrives, hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Hear the near shipment should be on or around April 5th/6th. Unfortunately I couldn’t tell you how it directly compares to the R5 as I have never personally shot with one. If it’s working for you and sounds like it is, don’t go fixing what isn’t broken.

think a9II will be better early morning late evening when you shooting...(not post)?

Most likely selling it but I'm holding onto it a little bit longer as I still want to flush out a bit more comparison. I'm still getting to grips with how the A1 does vs the A9II with the 200-600/1.4TC and the 600GM/2xTC for action shooting. The A1 only has a reach advantage over the A9II if I can rely on those two combinations to perform as well as they do on my A9II. I'm not convinced that they do yet.

Then again, I wouldn't entertain selling the A1 and just continuing on with the A9II because there are so many

Because of ISO performance? With double the pixels the a1 holds its own against the a9II, and in some ways is better as you have more detail to work with through the denoising and optionally downscaling process. You can see reviews and comparisons where the noise grain after downscaling is much smaller in size on the a1 images, and really lets the detail show through.

If you are saying this for some other reason, ignore the paragraph above ;-)

Hi Duncan, thanks for the video.

The R5 can do that easy -10 fps and get 98 % of the frames in focus on a rainy day. Not with that bird mind you but with red-wing blackbirds and such in my area.
What I mean by keep up is: Focus and tracking and when you look at the pictures on your 5k Imac after the shoot they are in focus.
But the main reason that I'm interested in the A1 is to turn down the fps say to 10-15 let say, I can get 12 fps mechanical with the r5 but I really like the silent shutter for my type of photography. I'm tired of culling through 200 frames of the same bird in tack sharp focus. Close your eyes and pick one.
I think Canon has no interest in giving us that option in a firmware update.
I don't see much difference in the glass performance from both Sony or Canon, so not loosing anything there.
The only thing I did notice in the video is the bird is perched in the photos, when the photographer is showing the tack sharp eye, or that's what it looks like to me.
Thanks for taking the time to search out the video, really helps visual learners... great tool those videos.

Pius

So just out of curiosity can you show me the R5 doing this

That's 1.5 seconds and 43 in focus images 1 out of focus and 2 missed frames in that sequence.

I think even you would have to agree the R5 cannot do that - now to me that seems like I would have 10 more frames to choose from than I would have from an R5.

What exactly did you mean by "Keep Up".

Bear in mind I don't care if it does or doesn't keep up - I am just curious by what measure you think it "Keeps Up".

I guess if

What areas, focus and tracking, MP or FPS?
